04/26/2008 Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford has not made a decision on the future of coach Peter Laviolette. "Everything's the same as it is been", mentioned Rutherford, who was in Detroit last week to meet with Canes owner Peter Karmanos.
02/01/2008 Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher will have a tough sell on his hands if he's planning to ask Mats Sundin to waive his no trade clause when the 2 meet in the coming days. "I can talk to Cliff, why would not I ... and I am sure he has all kinds of things to talk to me about, however it will not change my position", Sundin mentioned yesterday before the Leafs jetted off to Carolina for a game tonight against the Hurricanes.

01/26/2008 The Hurricanes continue to be looking over Avalanche defender John-Michael Liles, an unrestricted free agent after this season. Carolina has made no secret of its wish for a puck-carrying, offensive defenseman. Liles, however, is suffering through the worst season of his young career, with 2 goals and 18 points in 48 games coming in. Scouts from the Maple Leafs, Rangers and Capitals also were in attendance.
01/10/2008 With Justin Williams likely out for the rest of the regular season and with Matt Cullen slowly recuperating from a concussion, the Hurricanes are in talks to add an NHL forward to fill out their top nine.
07/13/2007 The Daily News also has found out that Rangers GM Sather is shopping center Matt Cullen, with a trade back to the Hurricanes very much on the front burner. However, it only as easily maybe the 1st step in a plan to clear enough cap space to sign free agent defenseman Sheldon Souray, whom the Devils and Islanders have pursued.

07/10/2007 The Hurricanes could be done shopping on the free agent market, with GM Jim Rutherford saying Sunday he would rather make a deal. Whilst the Canes signed center Jeff Hamilton on the 1st day of free agency, Rutherford mentioned he would like to add another candidate for the 3rd line center vacancy via trade, allowing the Canes to use Hamilton in a utility position and perhaps moving disgruntled defenseman Anton Babchuk in the process.
06/27/2007 The Hurricanes are attempting to make a swap of defensemen, and GM Jim Rutherford said Monday that the deal is being delayed whilst a Carolina player decides whether to waive his no trade clause. The Flyers could be the most likely trade partner, with 23 year old Joni Pitkanen, the 4th pick in the 2002 draft, on the trading block.
