Brian Burke will be the GM in Calgary before the season is over.

1.) 05 Sep 2013
Brian Burke will be GM by Friday.

2.) 05 Sep 2013
Why would you want him? Oh wait you want Phaneuf and Lombardi back.

3.) 05 Sep 2013
What does anyone see in this guy as a knowledgeable hockey person? In his tenure in Toronto, he hired lots of executives so he didn't have do the dirty work of travelling to making assessment of his team and other teams personnel. Look at the all the awful free agent signing by Burke. Didn't he know there is a salary cap? Connelly, Komasarik, Liles, Grabowski were just awful signings. Never mind his selection of coaches, again the Leafs and their money could have done so much better.

4.) 05 Sep 2013
^lol at the burke comment. Yes he made questionable signings, but he also built the leafs into what they are today, which is a good young team that are good enough to be playoff contenders, maybe even go a few rounds. That was him noone else.

5.) 05 Sep 2013
^ just playing devil's advocate - but he also brought in Kessel, Lupul, Phaneuf, Gardiner, JVR, Franson etc. and the team that went to the playoffs last year was largely assembled by him with his choice of coach. Not to mention that Liles and Connolly were hardly bad contracts, they were/are signings that didn't pan out (and that's ignoring Liles could still play top 4 minutes). If there was a different coach Grabovski would be the Leafs top line C, so you're in tough again to argue that it was a bad signing.

So that leaves Komisarek, and for every Komisarek there is a Jake Gardiner or a Joffery Lupul or a Dion Phaneuf. Bottom line, you may not like him but Burke made a positive impact on a team that was on the threshold of hell.

6.) 05 Sep 2013
You guys re blasting Brian Burke?! He looks like a genius now that all is said and done. During his tenure they didn't produce but they sure look poised and ready to. This team was inherited by Nonis. Don't get it backwards boys. Calgary would be lucky to get Burke as their GM.

7.) 05 Sep 2013
And just to add. those bad signings are made by all GMs, especially when you promise to aggressively turn a team around in as little as 4 years.

8.) 05 Sep 2013
Hey brain burke, leafs will give you phaneuf for two first round pick

9.) 05 Sep 2013
When Burke got to Toronto in late 2008:

Top 9 Forwards: Poni, Stajan, Blake, Antropov, Hagman, Grabovksi, Kulemin, Stempniak, Moore

Top 6 defense: Kaberle, Schenn (rookie), Van Ryn, Kubina, White, Finger

Goalies: Toskala, Raycroft

Top prospects: Newberry, Earl, Ondrus, Deveaux, Mikus

When Burke was fired in 2012

Top 9 forwards: JVR, Bozak, Kessel, Lupul, Kadri, Kulemin, Colborne. (Bolland and Clarkson acquired by Nonis)

Top 6 defense: Phaneuf, Gardiner, Gunnar, Liles, Franson, Fraser (+Ranger signed by Burke the year before)

Goal: Reimer, Bernier (acquired by Nonis)

Top prospects: Rielly, Finn, Leivo, Biggs, Broll, Percy, Sparks, Ross, McKegg, Ashton, D'Amigo.

Verdict? Good job or bad job?

10.) 05 Sep 2013
Bad job .

11.) 05 Sep 2013
Burke was decent, no more, no less. 5 years out of the playoffs will quickly build your prospect pool. JVR and Gardiner are good pick ups, Komisarek, Connolly not so much. Kessel, as good as he has been, imo doesn`t equal Seguin and Dougie Hamilton. Burke gets a C grade.

12.) 05 Sep 2013
The Calgary Flames bolstered their front office on Thursday as the club announced the hiring of Brian Burke as the team's new president of hockey operations.

13.) 05 Sep 2013
Burke is a great GM. Questionable calls, yah, but a great GM. This guy walked out of the 1999 Draft with a set of twins who were suppose to go 1st and 2nd. But hey if the Flames would like to keep Feaster as their GM than by all means.

14.) 05 Sep 2013
Thanks Black Unicorn. Where did you hear that? Can you provide a source?

15.) 06 Sep 2013
He actually did a lot with the Leafs organization. Made them a whole lot better. I think the reason he was fired was because he wasn't patient with players and wanted to win right away.

16.) 06 Sep 2013
He did a great job and when he got to TOR almost everybody had either a no trade clause or huge contract. And the reason he rushed the "rebuild" was their is SOOO much pressure from the fans

17.) 06 Sep 2013
Burke promised a cup in his 3 year plan. lol 1967 and waiting.
He was well paid as Leafs G. M. ( actually was the highest paid G. M. in league history ). I rate Burke as a borderline c- d.
