To EDM: Phaneuf, Kadri, Reimer, 1st 2016, 1st 2015

To Leafs: 1st Overall

This would be at the draft so the cap issues can be solved before the season starts.

Look at the Lindros trade.

McDavid is projected to be better than crosby and this solves both teams issues. Leafs get #1 center. EDM gets top 2 dman, #2C, #1B goalie, and two firsts. I would have reilly instead of dion, however they need a top 2 dman NOW, whereas Morgan won't be at that level for a few more years.

Put rielly and nylinder or van rymsdike instead of reimer, phaneuf and kadri with the same stuff

Ya sure, the Leafs get McDavid without giving up ANY of JVR, Rielly, Nylander, etc.
Try all of these plus some first for McDavid.

2015 1st round pick
2016 2nd round pick
Reilly
JVR
Kadri
Gauthier

and then take back a D.O.A. contract ie: Nikitin, or Pouliet

Never expect oilers fans to say anything intelligent and they still always disappoint. If leaf players suck because the team sucks what does that say about the oilers players? RNH is a more fragile Kadri, Eberle is a smaller more overpaid JVR (although JVR is showing improvement every year while Eberle regresses), Hall is an even less proven Kessel and Yakupov isn't worth half a season of Lupul plus you have no one on d that even deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Phaneuf or Reilly (and I'm not a huge fan of either). All 4 of those players were going to be the "next one" when you drafted them too, remember that. I remember the Lindros trade when one team gave up a bunch of picks and players for "the next one" and never won a thing, while the other team used those assets to win the cup. "Stars" don't win Cups, teams do!

Gsess: None of the Oilers first round picks were even remotely close to being as much hyped as McDavid is. If 95% of scouts are correct, McDavid will be on a whole other level than all of these. And than 99% of the NHL in 2-3 years.

Hype is hype and is one concussion or injury away from being unreached. To give up as you suggest 2 recent top 10 picks, one of which with 2 years of Nhl experience (Nylander, Reilly) along with a proven young forward as well as what I would assume is another top ten pick + for any unproven player no matter how hyped is insane. Depth wins, teams win or Crosby and Malkin would raise the cup every year

I know and you're mostly correct. I didn't say that's what the Leafs (or any team) should pay.
I'm just pretty sure that whoever is holding #1 overall is acting like that and will claim McDavid IS already worth as much as Sid e.g.
And why wouldn't they? They have the power to do with that pick whatever they want
