What about a trade with toronto and sj
Tor kessel and Bernier
Sj Thornton f.hamilton 10 overall this year and a second next year
Sj gets kessel and Pavelski together we scene how good that could be and they get a good goalie
Toronto gets a mentor for the kids a decent prospect a good pick and a pick you have to hit on next year

i honestly like the thought of this proposal except I think the leafs aren't getting enough in return for their #1 player and #1 goalie. i'm not saying it to be sarcastic or anything, but i'm saying thornton doesn't have much value to the leafs, but it would be great for SJ to get rid of him in a package like this, with all the problem with the team, freeing cap space for kessel aswell, but like I said he would hinder the rebuild in toronto since he still is a very good player and they are not competing, and the tenth the leafs would probably pick up rantanen who they covet and hamilton isn't that great a prospect. and bernier is a very good goalie just on a crap team. and if your not getting much back for him?

i guess it breaks down like this

Thornton, 10th for kessel

Hamilton, 2nd for Bernier


i think the leafs could get a better package for both, no offence to thornton, I love him but he is old and getting worse each year, but he is still a great player but 10 yrs too late haha

and that isn't enough for bernier in my opinion a better prospect or a first would be coming back in the trade

but I like it since SJ need a goalie and all theproblems between management and thornton since its "his" team and a kessel/pavelski/burns line would be beautiful

and the leafs side a good prospect would be coming back theyd get a top 10 pick and thornton would bring a great veteran and mentor presence to the room

maybe a better trade would be Thornton, Hertl, 10th for kessel, bernier fills a need for both team since hertl is a better prospect and taking away the 2nd makes it more even, but who knows ehh? but I do like the thought

Thornton would have to agree to being traded, and I think he has made it pretty clear that he won't. Kind of a major misstep in your proposal.
