James van Riemsdyk to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Jack Johnson and a 2019 2nd Round Draft Pick.

- Two UFA's traded for each other, for positional needs.
- Columbus could use another left winger, especially if Sonny Milano doesn't pan out on the left side. Foligno, van Riemsdyk and Panarin on the left would be ridiculous.
- Columbus also has internal depth to take over for the loss of Johnson, as Harrington, Nutivarra and Gabriel Carlsson are all young enough to play the bottom pair and have sheltered minutes. The top four in CBJ would stay the same, with Seth Jones, Zach Werenski, David Savard and Ryan Murray.
- Toronto definetly could use another defenseman to round out their top four, and Johnson could be a stabilizing partner for the still growing Morgan Rielly. It would also be better if Ron Hainsey played in a third pairing role than in a first pairing role, that way he could play big minutes on the PK.
- Toronto also can easily replace JVR, as currently, with him in the lineup, they have 5 NHL ready left wingers (JVR, Marleau, Hyman, Komarov, Martin) . One would shift to the right side if this move wasn't done. With this move, there is an opening on the right wing for Kasperi Kapanen, who played well in a fourth line stint last year.

Toronto Lineup:
Zach Hyman - Auston Matthews - William Nylander
Patrick Marleau - Tyler Bozak - Mitch Marner
Leo Komarov - Nazem Kadri - Connor Brown
Matt Martin - Dominic Moore - Kasperi Kapanen
*Josh Leivo

Jack Johnson - Morgan Rielly
Jake Gardiner - Nikita Zaitsev
Connor Carrick - Ron Hainsey
*Travis Dermott, Roman Polak

Columbus Lineup:
Artemi Panarin - Alex Wennberg - Josh Anderson (if he signs)
Nick Foligno - Brandon Dubinsky - Cam Atkinson
James van Riemsdyk - Boone Jenner - Oliver Bjorkstrand
Sonny Milano - Lukas Sedlak - Matt Calvert
*Jordan Schroeder

Seth Jones - Zach Werenski
Gabriel Carlsson - David Savard
Markus Nuttivarra - Ryan Murray
*Scott Harrington

- Only reason I added the second is because I believe Jack Johnson is worth a first, and JVR is worth a first and second. So yeah.

I like it, I don't think Johnson is the answer to the Leafs and JVR isn't a centremen but it does make both teams better without them really giving up much. So solid and a realistic trade.
