Toronto: Nylander + Liljegren + Kapanen + 1st

Ottawa: Karlsson

🤷🏼‍♂️
Value wise would those teams make it?
Realistically not going to happen. Just a post.
Ottawa will never win the trade ever, so trying to minimize the loss.

Depends on if Toronto had an extension in place. If they don't that's quite a bit of quality for 1 1/2 years even if it is karlsson

Values there but it'd never happen between division rivals.

I think Ottawa Wins that trade by a landslide. Marks on is good but Lilijegreen and a first and Kappy good. Not Nylander +++ Lilijegreen and happy good. Lol.

Not a chance from Toronto.

I'd say for a season and a half of Karlson, sens make out like bandits. If that’s the price leafs have to pay for a guarantee 1.5 years of Karlson they should walk away. Rebuilding takes more than 2-3 years, leafs need to hang on to their assets.

I don’t know what Ottawa would want in return but that’s basically 4 first rounders. I definitely would not like the deal from a Toronto perspective.

How would trading karlsson to your divisional rival minimize the loss? What a joke.

Ottwawa loses one of the best D in the game but they’d take that for sure IMO.

I think it's to much for Karlsson.

Am Not enough for karlsson.

10.) 11 Feb 2018

Toronto should do it because they are giving up only 1 roster player and they have depth to cover Nylander and they get the best defensemen in the game.

11.) 11 Feb 2018
10 Feb 2018 23:26:57
Oops oh no this is guaranteed extension also.

12.) 11 Feb 2018
10 Feb 2018 23:28:45
Imo, its too much from EK. Cause Nylanders basically a 50-60 point guy with potential of 70, and he's dual C/ W, Liljegren is the best prospect Toronto has, Kapanen, in limited minutes has looked solid, and a 1st is a 1st. Honestly, this trade may hurt Toronto more than it helps in the long run, even if EK is resigned. Its just too much imo.

And ya obvs said it wouldn’t happen haha just value wise.

Karllson is a stud dman but if Toronto does this I think it will come back to burn them. And extending him would cost alot.

Massive Karlsson fan but I would hope leafs wouldn’t pay that for him. I know he makes any team instantly better, but I feel like drew doughty makes the leafs better than Karlsson does. He just addresses more of the areas our game is soft. Unbelievable talent for both of them, but long term, I don’t think Karlsson helps us as much as all those pieces do, and when it’s going to come with an 8 year extension, have to think long term.

16.) 11 Feb 2018
11 Feb 2018 12:15:09
Leafs are 2nd in dman points. They need a solid stay home dman.

Not part of the Shanaplan.
So a big NO for that dumb trade proposal.

Replace kapanen and liljegren with marner and add Phaneuf and lupul to each end then we have something to look at as a starting point, leafs might still have to add based on what Colorado got for Duchene and the fact that karlsson is not only a defenceman but that has a much better player than Duchene is thus he's worth more.

Marner, nylander, lupul, and their late 1st

Karlsson, Phaneuf

Toronto unloads lupul and brings back Phaneuf via karlsson. But is now in a position where Phaneuf can be used properly, in doing so they add the best defenceman in the last decade.

Ottawa uses EKs value to unload Phaneufs contract by adding one that expires sooner same way Toronto did in original deal but also adds 2 solid top six forwards and a late 1st in a weak draft class. with the addition of the 2 fowards they will have some flexibility up front and can afford to move brassard, Ryan, and Smith for other pieces like maybe draft picks, prospects, or replacement dman. example Ryan to rangers for shattenkirk. bad contract for bad contract but both players would fit better with the other team. also brassard to pitsberg or Columbus for a 1st both have been rumored this year. and smith to calgary for two years of 3rds also been rumored.

Hoffman Duchene stone
Marner white nylander
Formenton brown Dzingle
Batherson pageau pyatt

Chabot shattenkirk
Claeson Ceci
Harpur/ borowieski wideman

Ottawa's speed would be upped tremendously while Toronto fixes their biggest issue which is their blue line by adding the crazy 1 2 punch of Matthews karlsson with Phaneuf net front presence.

Karsson way better than the sum of those parts.

20.) 11 Feb 2018
11 Feb 2018 15:33:06
@no bias, leafs are not taking phaneufs contract back lol the fact that the sens took that without leafs retaining anything in the first place is still talked about as one of the greatest heists. We had to retain on kessel who is a far better player. Your GM took the full salary for the lesser player, that’s on him. No trade backsies lol.

21.) 11 Feb 2018
11 Feb 2018 16:54:32
Dorion is not stupid enough to trade an impact player like that to a team within the same division.

22.) 11 Feb 2018
11 Feb 2018 18:39:32
Why would the leafs feel obligated to unload the lupul contract? Its not costing them a dime.

23.) 11 Feb 2018
11 Feb 2018 19:19:40
Nylander and Marner for EK and Dion Phaneuf? No bias my a** lmao.

24.) 11 Feb 2018
11 Feb 2018 21:53:31
And saying Dorion isn’t dumb enough to trade a star within the division? but he took a contract that was killing a division rival without having them retain salary, never got a good prospect or pick that was an incentive and in fact gave the best prospect (Tobias Lindberg) and the only pick (2nd rounder) in the deal. He’s the only guy I can think of that did that too, so who knows? lol.

Jim you need to do your homework better. it was murray not Dorian who acquired Phaneuf.

And I've said it before I'll continue to say it again unroll it sinks in. contracts, good or bad, do not make or break a deal as there are many ways around bad contracts.

1 way is retention, another is by packaging a bad contract with a desired piece (in this case a generational talent known as Erik karlsson), another way is by taking back another bad contract with less term (Like lupul in this case)

I guarantee Phaneuf gets traded again before his contract expires an most likely before the start of next season. there has been interest stemming from the kings in acquiring him for a playoff run from what I've been hearing.

Also note that an asking prices has been set on one Derrick brassard as well that proves I far from over value the sens players as I've said all along is be content with a mid 1st for Brassard who Dorian has set an asking price of a 1st, a top prospect, and a third unidentified piece for. clearly I undervalued him just not as much as the rest of you have.

Thank sakic for the ridiculous over values of certain players now days.

Think of it this way. if brassard demands that big of a return karlsson probably demands a lot more than I previously stated as well seeing as how he's 10 × the player brassard is, he plays a more important role and position, and he can single handedly change the game when he's healthy, went through summer training camp, and is not recovering from surgury.

Ryan may be tougher to move than Phaneuf due to his plastic fingers but even he could find the right suiter if they tried to.
