EDM: 2018 1st (trade only goes though if pick isn't in top 3)
MTL: Pacioretty

More from MTL I'm pretty sure.
As long as EDM have a relatively solid off season they will be back on track next year (any team with McDavid has a shot at the cup every year imo) .

Definatley more from Montreal. Patches is a good player, but he’s 30 and will be a ufa after next season and will be looking for a big raise. Edmonton won’t be able to afford him once his contract is up so for them to trade away a high pick in a deep draft year that’ll be controllable for many years wouldn’t be too smart. Edmonton’s core is still young a couple pieces away from being a contender. If they were going to trade that pick they should be targeting a Jacob Trouba or something similar.

Jesus no
Edm = 1top 5 pick from the cup.

So one more top 5 pick should do it key habs? You really think? I was wondering how many more 1st overall picks it was going to take to get them back to the playoffs.

Lol. Edm isn't trading that first for one year of a 29 year old Pacioretty.

Lol Edmonton should not consider going for Trouba with that pick.

I didn’t mean they should target trouba specifically, I meant that if they were considering trading a top 6 pick they need to get something back that they need and as far as I can tell they still need a top 2, right handed defence or at least a top defence regardless of handedness. Unless they win the lottery and are able to draft Dahlen cause after him the next handful of player that’ll be drafted are forwards, which I think it’s safe to say they need defence more than a forward, they could consider trading the pick for a legit top d man.

Trouba is not a top 2 nor the right player Edmonton should consider if they are going to trade a top 10 pick. Is what I’m also saying.

But yes if they could trade for a top offensive rhd absolutely could be worth that pick.

What top offensive dman did you have in mind.

I think oilers could make a trade for Faulk (right handed) or a top dman like Ekman-Larsson. Not one for one either of those deals but the player and the pick from each sides involved in the package.

OEL over rated in my opinion. Same as RH vs LH d-Men. If the guy is a stud player who cares how he shoots

It is a weak theory. like Corsi stats.

@balsam, what’s your reason for finding him overrated? I see him play a few times a year and get the feeling he’s underrated because he's stuck in the desert. if he was in a Canadian market like Karlsson or Weber, or a big US market like Doughty in LA and kieth in Chicago, he would be talked about as one of the leagues best a lot more often. Not saying he’s better than any of those guys, but I believe he would be knocking on the door of the conversation if more people got to see how good he was more often.

OEL is a #1 dman in the league and just like Jim said he’s not talked enough because the team he’s on, for sure underrated. Look at his stats and imagine what he could do on a good team he’d be way better.

How about s trade with Nashville. Ryan Ellis and 2018 3rd for Edmonton’s 1st round pick this year? Or Dante fabbro and next years 2nd for Edmonton’s 1st this year. Both options give edmonton right handed offensive defence. First option gives oilers a puck moving defence whose mid 20s and will help right away 2nd gives them a unproven d man Which is why I added the second but he’s young and controllable and won’t cost a lot for a few more years. Nashville would draft a forward winger. Helps both teams, both teams trade from a strength to help weakness’.

Lol don’t even Mention the 3rd round pick
Gonna take Subban straight up or you might as well forget that top 5 pick.

Subban straight up eh? Good thinking If they had Subban a contract they’d be at damn near 40 million for 4 guys. Mcdavid at 12.5, draisatl at 8, Subban at 10 and Lucic at 6.36 million for 4 guys, they still have Nuge, klefbom, Larson, and Talbot. no way in hell they could afford Subban, Ellis is a very good option. underrated and way cheaper. It was a thought, not saying there wouldn’t be better options, just one that came to mind.

Good thought but ya can’t see why preds would break up the best defensive core in the league.

There is actually a few good right hand d in the draft this year one being Bourchard and the other being Dodson both are projected to go top ten.

True oil-fan, but teams generally draft the “best available player” regardless of position, I think Bouchard is projected between 10-16 range, if the oilers decided to draft yakopov over Murray when even then their need was defence I can’t see them doing that this time around either. Drafting a lower rated defence rather than a forward that is. And mcjesus, reason I thought of nasville is because they have a deep d core they can do that, whether it be fabbro or Ellis or Ekholm either way they can afford to trade one of them to improve their offence. Same could be said for Carolina or aneheim. That being said I think Faulk for oilers first this year is more than fair, unless Carolina wants a established forward.
