Montreal has enough cap problems with Weber’s and Price’s contracts.

Since Hossa just retired would his contract still be a thing or would it be terminated?

I think since he retired it’s done. If he stayed on LTIR it would still be a thing (like pronger) . I could be wrong but I believe the ones that still stay on after retirement are guys who sign multi year deals after the age of 35. Hossas deal takes him to 40+ but it was one of those 12 or 13 year outrageous deals signed at like 28 years old. I believe the rule you’re talking about where the team pays even if the player retires was put in place afterwards to stop deals like Hossa, zetterberg, Franzen etc.

Again I could be wrong, that’s how I remember it though.

Okay well with that in mind easy easy no from Chicago especially if patches doesn’t sign. Chicago needs to build up through youth again.

I’m pretty sure Hossa hasn’t/ won’t officially retire until his contract is up.

Hossa won't sign the papers until his contract expires. Its cap circumvention. he's never going to play again but won't retire so they can put him on LTIR.

Hossas contract will just be buried on LTIR won't it?
