Pens need to upgrade their defence and hopefully drop some $ without disrupting their core. Sounds easy.
1. Calgary sends TJ Brodie $2million retained.
Pens send Hagelin and Sprong and 2nd round pick.
Risky for Flames as I think Brodie would excel with Letang but Hagelin can still okay bottom 6 and Sprong has top 6 potential. The second rounder is at 53.
2. Calgary trades Giordano at 50% retainedand Ferland
Pens send Sprong, Hagelin, Rust and a second.
The second one would be ideal for the Pens for the next couple seasons but they are a win now team. It also gives the Flames a lot of potential.

I’d do the 1st suggestion from Pitt66 as a Flames fan.
I have no interest in Kessel, especially if he cost anything of importance. I’d rather keep Ferland as we need more players like him; heavy players that still have skill and excellent skaters. Sprong would be the key for us and Hagelin would add good depth.

Probably a pretty fair counter. Would love to have Giordano but would hope to get him without losing Phil.
