2 trades for the Isles

1) Philipp Grubauer and Brooks Orpik for 2018 CGY 2nd (43rd OA)

NYI get a 1B goalie to challenge his conutryman Greiss for the starter's job. This competition should be useful. Orpik is a cap dumb. He lessens the value of Grubauer. Washington gets the cap space to re-sign Carlson and others, Isles solve their goalie issues relatively cheap.

2) Brooks Orpik (50% retained by NYI) for Matt Martin

The Leafs get rid of two years of Martin's contract in exchange for one year of Polak's replacement as the tough guy. This helps the Leafs cap-wise in the near future. The Isles re-unite the fourth line of Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck.

I’m sure there’s other teams that will offer more than Calgary will for Grubauer. I don’t think they need him bad enough to make the trade. Also they wouldn’t want to retain on Orpik and take Martins contract. Doesn’t make any sense for them.
