Montreal Trades
Weber

Toronto Trades
Holl
7th Round Pick 2020

Montreal will not take on any Salary in this Proposed Deal.

Before any says am I insane hear me out, Montreal is stuck with 2 huge Salaries in Weber and Price they would love to get rid of to start there rebuild, Leafs are in the Win now mode so why not Trade for one of the best out there, Weber I here won't be ready until December but for Weber it will be worth the wait.

Thoughts ?

Nothing like an AHLer and a 7th round pick to start the rebuild.

You say Weber is “one of the best in the game”, and you offer stuff that will likely NEVER help the Habs. Sure he’s old and has a bad contract but cmon.

Why is unloading salary a requirement forna rebuild? isn't it the opposite, where they should try to take on salary and get assets to do it? They don't need to dump players for well below market value to move cap.

So are you then going to trade Mathews for a draft pick or something. How are you going to for Weber and his contract in with no money going back?

Weber is in the Phaneuf type stage, yes he is better than Phaneuf but that Contract is a killer for Montreal, like what the Leafs did with Phaneuf and Kessel etc. You have to bite the bullet to start again, if Montreal doesn't get rid of Weber and Price they will be 4yrs back in there rebuild, getting rid of them makes them worse which gives them better Draft Picks, and eats up 19 million in Cap Space, the Leafs will probably look elsewhere as it was just an idea to start with.

Pinball, how do you come up with so many one sided trades? You don't actually believe any of your rationalizations for your crap offers do you?

They will still need a good leader for all that youth and to hit the cap floor. I think they should trade patches because he has a year left and will bring back a prospect and a pick that should help the rebuild. But as for a guy like Weber, move him if you can get assets of value back, but to move him for the sake of moving him while getting nothing of value back, or even paying to ditch the contract makes zero sense.

I don’t think anyone is dumb enough to take the Weber contract. Oh wait, Montreal was.

That contract is so overrated Nashville gets hurt the most by it from cap recaptures. If Weber starts to suck in his last 3 years his salary lowers down to 1 million and A rebuilding team trying to get to the cap floor would see him as a asset or Nashville would pay a steep price to bring him back and avoid the recapture. He’s still a top 10 RHD and would cost a lot more then people would think. You’re comparing him to a much inferior player in phaneuf but phaneuf returned more then that.

@ Pinball you must be smoking some good rubbish if you actually think this is a good trade. He had one injured down year, 2 years ago he was 5th or 6th in norris votes for all we know he could be like Chara and help the young D grow. And the big difference between Phaneuf and Weber is with Phaneuf the contract was given to him by old management then the new GM said we don't want you. Bergavin traded for Weber knowing the contract so he's not in a sense going to trade Subban for F. Gauthier and a 7th.

Maybe:

Weber for 7th Round only? Lol.

If habs are looking to rebuild they can't use weber to do it. They would have to give a good piece just for someone to take his contract. They are stuck with him.

Ya and people said the same about Chara and Boston when Boston wasn’t doing so well. The fact is I’d rather the aging Weber that can lead my young group then trade him ( while he can still be a top pair D-man) for nothing. If this trade was purposed 5 years from now and Weber was the 5th D-man sure. But he can still play well so no way in hell is this a good trade.

The contract sucks, he player doesn’t. So if the cap space isn’t an issue, which it shouldn’t be for a few years in Montreal, don’t give the guy away.

carnyslop, we'll happily stay "stuck" with Weber. As previously stated, you need veteran experience to help with a rebuild. Weber will do a great job in that regard.
