Tor- nylander
Col- Timmins 19 1st

Leafs get a very good defence prospect, who should make the team next year, sure they could trade nylander for someone to help now but in my opinion I'd rather trade for a younger possibly higher ceiling d man than a Brett Pesce or something similar, even if it doesn't help them now. Toronto also adds cap space to help with the possibility that marner wants more than originally expected.
Colorado gets secondary scoring in nylander to take pressure off the big line as well as gives nylander a change in scenery to maybe help him find his game back.

Leafs don't need a d prospect at least not for willie . they need a d to try and win the cup in the next three years.

Timmins has yet to play a game this year as he recovers from a very serious concussion. While Timmins used to be ranked just as highly as Makar, and even higher depending on the analyst, Makar is the better choice by far now.

My first thought was Makar, I changed it to Timmins based on style of play, but I personally think Makar has a higher ceiling than Timmins. I just don’t think they should trade nylander for a d man like Pesce. Nothing personal towards Pesce cause I do think he’s good but if you could get someone like Makar that sure hasn’t played a nhl game but more than likely will be a much better player than Pesce wouldn’t you rather get the better player. If leafs were to trade nylander for pesce I think they’d be settling on lesser value just to add someone they think is a slight upgrade now rather than get a guy that’ll be a huge upgrade next year and the year after. rant over.

The thought of trading Nylander for a prospect player, no matter how highly rated, automatically carries risk, as the prospect is so unproven. In Makar’s case, he’s playing NCAA, which is significantly less competitive than AHL or KHL. When looking how well the class surrounding him in the last couple draft years has done, you have to believe that Makar is going to be every bit as good as analysts predict.

Certainly his numbers continue to improve every year, even as the compete level as increased at the same time. He is the model of “today’s” NHL defenseman. I expect good things from this young man. The increase in quality of players coming into the NHL the last few years is incredibly impressive. Nylander for Makar is a trade that works for both teams. Before Timmins got his bell ring, I would have agreed with you on Timmins as good choice as well.
