Both JuWilliams and Hainsey are on expiring contracts so in the big picture the main players in this deal is DHamilton for Kapanen a 1st Round Pick, Carolina isn't probably making the Playoffs so this is more a next year type of deal for them, DHamilton gives the Leafs that R. Handed Shooting Defenceman they need and JuWilliams is a Playoff type Winger important in Post Season.

Looking at the Cap situation Leafs can put Horton and Ennis on LTIR but Carolina will have to retain at least 500.000 to get the Leafs under the Cap.

Just because Hainsey and Williams are on expiring deals doesn’t mean we can ignore them, Williams has much more value and would probably fetch a decent return himself at the deadline because of his playoff heroics.
