Leafs pass, that’s too much too give up for an elite defenceman and a middle 6 winger.

Marner>Jones

Marner is a Franchise player
Jones is Elite player

If Jones is Franchise, then Reilly is a Generational talent

Now do you see why Jones is overrated?

Leafs would be better off trading Mathews . already have a franchise Center in Tavares. keep the franchise winger.
They have a stud Dman in Reilly . a decent, not a total star in Anderson. kinda has a similar style to Blackhawks. they did all right. so. ditch Mathews, get 1 more star Dman. maybe be better than Hawks mini dynasty. however, if you keep Mathews over Marner. will never win a cup.

Marner > Jones? On what planet are you living?
Even if you put contracts aside, I'd already take Jones, a top 5 NHL D imo, over Marner. Now factor in that Jones' AAV will probably be less than half of Marner's for the next 3 years and this isn't even close anymore.

Sosa, you comparing leaf to blackhawks? Leafs haven't won a a cup yet and are max cap. If you mean to many expensive players, ya, they like the hawks now as in they going to have to shed contracts in next couple years cause 4 guys take over half the cap. This is their only year they have a shot. Then its dismantle time.

Why is this Toronto’s only year shoots? They have 2 years before Andersen needs a contract and 3 years before Reilly needs a new contract. The core is locked up for years to come, if Marner signs. Their defense will be getting some type of shake up next year but it’s never been very good anyways.

Shoots. I meant that they have similarities. and, yes I'm well aware they have not won a cup.
They have the potential to be like the Hawks is what ai meant. but I believe trading Mathews to bolster the roster is beneficial.
