So I am thinking of something as I watch the memorial cup. Nathan Mackinnon is WAY to valueable of a player to actually pass up on and not take first. especially the way he has been playing.
with the great track record Colorado has of drafting great centermen (not sarcastic), I was thinking. what if Colorado draft mackinnon first overall and pass on jones.
i feel this could be very very smart for them for many reasons.
1st, you get nathan mackinnon. that itself is by far the best!
2nd, they are stacked on centermen and will be recieving calls across the nhl.
3rd, now everyone knows that they need a #1 dman, so I have kind of been thinking about that. with the option of mackinnon, duchene, statny, o'rielly and the AHL team centermen they have, what is stopping them from trading one of them, maybe even Duchene, and get the true #1 Dman in return that they so deperatly need, and bonus back with another younger player and another 1st rounder.
now that doesn't seem to unrealistic to me because duchene is going to be a monster in the nhl and if Colorado takes mackinnon, he will only be shadowed behind him.

so what i'm saying is, taking option three into consideration. What does everyone thing Colorado should do? who could they get in return if they did any of this.

should be intersting to read up on.

I tend to agree with you. Draft mackinnon then trade duchene. Teams like toronto, montreal, florida, vancouver, nashville and many others would immediately offer there own 1st plus for him. I myself would offer up reilly or gardiner plus the 1st for duchene as a leaf fan. I am sure other teams gms would trade a lot for duchene.

Well if you could have Pronger or Duchene, who would you pick. If they would draft MacKinnon, all their centremen would drop in value. You can only have one #1 centre. By drafting MacKinnon you are basically telling all your centres they suck and you don't have faith in them. Do you want to be in the same situation with Duchene as you are with Stastny.

No disrespect to Jones, but I could see this being a Johnson/Staal/Toews type draft. Jones/Drouin/MacKinnon, Tampa ends up with the best player (assuming Florida takes Drouin and Colorado takes Jones).

Mackinnon is a great player and I'm a huge fan of his but COL is drafting Jones no matter what and Jones is 10xbetter than what TORk, FLA, EDM, CGY could offer
