Leafs should consider making a trade with the LA Kings as they have cap issues. Fleeced them once, why not again?
To LA - Gardiner, Clarkson
To TOR - Mike Richards, Justin Williams
Obviously would probably have to add more, maybe Bozak or players currently with the Marlies?
1.) L.A says no easily they don't need contracts like that they are in need of cap space.
2.) LA is having cap problems. Martinez and Muzzin contracts are kicking in next season. so why take on Gardiner?
Mike Richards and Clarkson have effectively the same contract. So it's not exactly a "fleecing". On that point though, let's assume LA can't move Richards. Maybe both teams would entertain a bad contract swap (assuming Clarkson could help LA and Richards could help TO - and I am not saying they could).
3.) Mike Richards contract is worse than Clarksons so no from Toronto.
No way LA trades Williams they are going to make another cup run this year, Its worth the risk of losing him in FA.
LA will not be able to dump Richards contract. The decision not to buy him out was one of the very rare, poor management decisions of the past 5 years.

Trade With NJ once Lupul returns back from injury.
NJ - Lupul and Holzer if necessary
TOR - Adam Larsson
On another note, please trade Phil Kessel!!!
1.) So bad. Just because Lupul is healthy doesn't mean he has a value in a Larsson trade.
2.) If Larsson is traded (and I really don't know why NJ would trade him right now) I would think it would be a similar situation to JVR/Schenn trade.
So maybe Yakupov for Larsson in a season or two, assuming neither substantially breakout?

Trade proposals:
Leafs need to break-up the core of the selfish players before tank nation happens again!
Nashville - Kessel, Gardiner and Lupal
Toronto - Seth Jones, Forsberg and James Neal
Kessel has a bad attitude and negative influence on the team, big suck and puck hog that is one dimensional!
Secondary trade would be Kessel for Weber straight up!

Apart from that I agree to Shankar about Kessel not having a bad attitude, NSH easily says no.
1. They have 0 reasons to change anything right now.
2. While Kessel (right now) is the best player changing teams in that deal, Seth Jonas as a (future) #1 defenseman has almost the same trade value. Forsbergs trade value is about 30 times the value Gardiner has and Neals value is obviously much, much, much higher than Lupuls.
Easy NO from NSH.
9.) Kessel took an unsportsmanlike penalty with 4 minutes left in a 2 goal game last night. He may score goals but I wouldn't give 8 million dollars to have him on my team. Habs bias or not. Not a fan
10.) Getting rid of Kessel would be the best thing for the leafs. But . trading that contract is going to be hard. Kessel has no hart, plays no defence and could not win a battle along the boards to save his life. The leafs will never win with Kessel in the line up.

thats far from the norm, in his 6 years in toronto that's the only time I can remember him getting an unsportsmanlike for mouthign off, usually he's quite on the ice.
14.) Yo my ass clarkson will get better. The idiot plays on the second line and gives the pick away like 5 times. I know this deal is terrible for Nashville. But right now kessel, jvr and bozak are the only players doing something for the leafs. Plus they are working together well. And, the line is never always looking to pass to kessel, they pass to jvr and kessel regularly passes when he should shoot. so stop the bias on kessel being bad, I mean he along with giroux and malkin are the only players to be in the top ten NHL scoring each of the last 3 season. That really shows u something

Haha the guys a lock for top 10 in points every year and yes he doesn't dig in the corners but his two way game has actually improved a lot but I guess your to biased to see that and I don't see anybody criticizing Kane for not back checking or digging in the corners?
@ Draisaitl Nashville would reject this trade no doubt but Jones doesn't have near the value Kessel does simply based on the fact that potential is far different from a sure thing.

Future #1 defenseman are way, way harder to find than elite wingers. that's why.

19.) What has he done to prove that he's going to he is going to be a future #1 defenceman? His draft position because his numbers haven't excatly shown it in Nashville and he's not even a top 4 in Nashville right now. Does he have potential most certainly but potential is just potential and is far from a sure thing.

21.) Yeah but then why wasn't Schenn who was considered the top prospect in the world traded straight up for Richards? Just because a player has potential to be a great player does not mean that he will necessarily reach that potential.

Yeah its kind of like me saying that Nylander has the same amount as value as Paciorety and although Nylander has potential to be a top line center one day he simply just doesn't have the same value as someone who has already developed into a great player and is on the good side of 30 regardless of how much potential Nylander may have.

The Nylander comparison isn't very good IMO.
Still, #1 defenseman are at least as valuable as true #1 centers. So hard to find. That's why Jones >> Nylander
