Tavares could take $9mill to go to a great team that can’t afford to pay him what he’s actually worth on the open market, or a team like tampa, Florida or Dallas that are good teams with great state tax situations to offset the discount. But he’s not going to sign on a bad team with tons of cap space and leave $15-20 million on the table over 7 years ($2-3 mill per season) . It’s not even like he would be playing for his hometown team or anything. Vancouver has absolutely nothing to offer him outside of money, so why low ball him?! Just about every team in the league would give him $9 mill or more, so what draws him to Vancouver?!

I think Hanifin has more value than Middlestadt as well, Right now anyways.

@Colt, he has hardly played a shift at centre in the NHL. You have no idea if he’s even a centreman. A lot of skilled forwards are drafted as centres and then are wingers when the reach the NHL (Marner, Nylander, Kane, Gaudreau, Drouin etc) I would pick someone that is for sure a centreman before making that trade. You already traded a really good young Dman for a winger you thought would be a centre.

I agree, Brady is has a birthdate days past last years cut off so in my eyes he’s playing as a draft plus 1 year and in that time he played 40 games in college hockey collecting 31 points and only ONLY 9 goals. I just don’t see why he’s rated so high and I feel that he’s going to turn into a bust really quick.

Johnny toews put up 39 pts in NCAA in his draft year and doesn’t bring the physical side of the game that tkachuk brinngs. Not a direct comparable in player type obviously but ncaa scoring is decieving. Leagues cannot be compared for points so evenly. If Brady played in the OHL like his brother in his draft year, he could have 90+ pts like Matthew had (107)

When 17 and 18 year olds are playing college hockey, they’re playing against physically developed men (18-23 or 24 year olds) in a much more structured game. When kids are in major junior they’re 17-18 in a league of 15-20 year olds and a lot less structured. Can’t do a direct comparison.

+/ - is a very useful stat if you use it in context. Just like Corsi or fenwick. They are not the be all and end all. When used as let's say a sub stat with TOI. You can get a clearer picture of a player if you dig a litte deeper.
