Confirmed trade;

Penguins acquire: David Perron

Oilers acquire: 2015 1st Round Pick, Rob Kilnkhammer

1.) I know Perron could help the Pens with all their injuries and would look good next to Malkin or Crosby but a first for him is a lot IMO.

2.) It's a lot of Pitt finishes in the middle 2/3 of the draft, but they will likely be in the Eastern conference final.

As an oilers fan, man do they suck. MacT got a good return, but we don't want another rebuild. At least get sutter for Perron heads up. That would have been better than a 1st Rd pk even in this deep draft year.

4.) ^ yeah, but it seems like that's what's happening. I mean if you keep pounding in the nails, eventually it's going to be a house right?

Look at the other teams who have "tanked" and then dominate, at some point during that process they had guys to emerge from unexpected place to put them over the top. As much as McDavid/Eichel will help, they need a Jonathan Quick or Duncan Keith to emerge from their later picks.

5.) Here is where I am confused. Perron at one point was rumored to be heading to CBJ for Anisimov. Anisimov addresses a much bigger need than what they got for him today. That 1st is likely going to be a late 1st rounder. Deep draft or not the Oilers need NHL ready guys who can help the cause now. The fans are getting restless and want results now rather than later. Hopefully they package that 1st and get some key pieces to help now rather than later.

6.) I think a 1st for a potential 35 goal scorer (last year he had 28 without Crosby or Malkin) is a good deal, especially for 1 with term on his contract. And I really like the idea of getting him this early into the season

When he said Kessel is one dimensional, I really don't think he was referring to his offensive ability. We all know Kessel is capable of putting up points, but on the defensive side of the puck, he is awful. Like Ovechkin awful.

You're a Penguins fan. Why would you want to make Pittsburgh worse?

Yeah those are solid stats. But there's just one small issue. Oh yes, a LARGE majority of those points came when he was playing in Washington. Since coming to Carolina he has what, one 20 goal season? Semin is paid for pretty much one reason. To score goals. Not sure what you're seeing in Semin that may render him useful, because I'd like to see them. And when I say that, I mean something other than you searching his name in Google and pasting his stats from years ago.

Poor Leaf fans. Just can't accept defeat.

But since I'm typing, I might as well weigh in on the "highlight goal" discussion.

Was it a nice goal? Absolutely. But as I said in my previous post, scoring a highlight reel goal doesn't make you any better of a player. Maybe the term "useless" for Semin is a bit harsh, so I'll put it this way. He's overpaid. He's getting paid $7 million per year to do pretty much what any average second liner can do for $3-4 million less.
