Flames have had too good a season to not at least try for the cup.

Calgary: 2nd round pick 2015 and Max Reinhart

Buffalo: Chris Stewart and Andrej Meszaros

It's never a bad thing to have brothers on the same club
Brings Sam and Max together. Buffalo gets a good return by packaging a veteran D with Stewart which also benefits the Flames who need D help right now due to injuries. Stewart adds grit and possibly secondary scoring and makes parting with Glencross easier if they decide to move him for picks.

McJesus15

1.) I like the idea of bundling two players to improve the return, but Murray has stated that he would want more for Stewart alone (a 2nd and a prospect). Max was an early 3rd in 2010 and has not distinguished himself as an NHL player, so he is high risk, low return prospect.

2.) Buffalo fan I suspect, both players are lazy and will want too much money. Two Zero difference making guys for a blue chip prospect and a pick would get any GM fired

3.) At 2pm tomorrow when Stewart is still a Sabre I think this trade is a solid proposal.

4.) @sens1 that must be 2:00 pm central standard time. You and cosain very well may be correct, but in the interim please look at the comparison of Stewart and Lucic stats, lifetime and this year. There is not much of a difference. Tim is receiving calls on many of his players, but he may relent and trade Stewart for the above or even less, but I do believe Stewart will be a Moulson trade, rent and resign. Stewart is tough, can score, pass, will drop the gloves and is fast (yes he is, for those who do not believe this have not watched him out skate many defense-men). @cosain I beg to differ with you, a 3rd round pick is seldom a blue chip prospect, but an averaged size center who was drafted almost 5 years age and only scores a point in 1 out of every 3 AHL games would hardly be called BLUE CHIP.

Raanta a on the move?

Bowman is a smart GM. He's not going to buy an expensive rental. He'll get a player with term.

Chicago: Raanta, Bickell, Dannault, 2nd, 3rd

Edmonton: Eberle

McJesus15

1.) Oilers have had some interest in Raanta for a while, but no way is a wholesale move in part of getting him. Petry+ would have been it at the deadline but not anymore with the Hawks getting Timonen. I highly doubt Raanta is a member of the Oilers unless it's an off-season move for bit parts, and likely not involving Eberle unless it's a sign-and-trade involving Seabrook.

2.) Actually, Chicago are more likely to trade for a rental. They have Seabrook to resign and they need Cap space for him.

Boston: 2nd 2015 and 4th in 2017

Dallas: Erik Cole

McJesus15

1.) 26 Feb 2015 11:24:27
Just the 4th. maybe a third, but not a second.

2.) Erik Cole is playing really well, he is better than Winnik and got that return. He is older, but he really fits the bruins style of play and shows the ability to score. I don't think the value is off by a lot

3.) Cole may be old but with the right assets, he can score goals. He scored what? 17-18 on a struggling Stars team and would definetly score more if the Bruins put him with Bergeron. I think the 2nd and a 4th is somehow believable for him.

4.) Seabass - Cole is on pace for another 20 goal season and would be a good rent pickup. I don't really believe he's worth that, but the market is expensive. For example, Winnik just fetched a 2nd, 4th, AND a player. Cole could potentially draw more.

Vancouver: Eddie Lack and Shawn Matthias

Toronto: Roman Polak and Tyler Bozak

Just a starting point. Players/picks may need to be added. Thoughts?

McJesus15

1.) I really don't like the idea of getting a goalie but it could make Bernier expendable as I mentioned Bernier instead of Reimer because I believe he can get a better return than James. If we do get a goalie I don't suggest Eddie Lack, I think its enough to trade for young goalies that have great potential but still "hasn't figure out yet." A goalie like Antti Niemi for example could be a good idea, although I do not suggest the Leafs to trade for him but to sign him in the off season if he becomes a free agent of course.

2.) Vancouver needs to add

Bozak could get a decent pick, Polak is very valuable because of his smaller cap hit and defensive ability.

I'm not sure how much they need to add, probably a few picks

3.) Vancouver just lost Miller for a few weeks, so I doubt they would move their backup. And Toronto doesn't really "need" Lack.

Matthias is a UFA, so he doesn't really bring any value.

So, take out Lack and add in some other pieces that Toronto could use and then see where you're at.

4.) @THEGR81

Matthias is proving he has extreme value.

Also, we don't have much else we want to offer.

5.) Take out polar and put in Bernier and than Vancouver adds there 1st round pick. Only way that makes sense and even than toronto is over paying. Maybe Vancouver adds a 2nd in 2016

6.) @thejazz

I am not saying he's not a good player, what I meant was he is a UFA, so for Toronto it adds little value.

Pick 5 or more pending UFA's. List their name, who they sign with, and for how much this summer. This is of course for fun. I don't care how believable or unbelievable.

Here's mine

1. Paul Martin - Dallas Stars - 3 years, 6.25 million AVA

2. Cody Franson - Colorado Avalanche - 5 years, 6.75 million AVA

3. Mats Zuccarello - Vancouver Canucks - 6 years 5.25million AVA

4. Justin Williams - Dallas Stars - 4 years, 6.25 AVA

5. Jiri Tlusty - Montreal Canadiens - 4 years, 4.25 million AVA

McJesus15

1.) 26 Feb 2015 09:33:34
Very reasonable picks. Despite I don't think Williams will go to the Stars.
And I don't think Franson will get almost 7m per.

2.) 26 Feb 2015 13:57:46
i agree he's not worth that much. but think, he's what 25. 26? and he's an rd, puts up good point totals and is 6'5. he's going to get paid big time way over what he's worth, just my opinion

3.) 5/6 years @ $5.75-$5.9 million

4.) If these averages end up being true it would just further prove that you cannot build a team through free agency.

5.) All these are crazy overpayment, I wouldn't be surprised if they all get it though.

6.) Stickboi - I agree with you and it's why I set the bar high. Last yeas contracts that were given out in free agency were ridiculous. Bolland, Orpik, Engelland, Glass, Fayne, Pouliot. All these guys are going to see huge paydays if the hit the open market. Free agency is expensive.

7.) Also this would have been more fun to check back and see if anyone made their own list. Whatevs though, criticism is cool too.

8.) All pretty realistic. Martin will probably make his way back home to Minnesota though. He is up there in age and wouldn't be surprised if he wants to go back home and finish his career there.

Breaking Down the E. Kane trade
I welcome any input, this is just how I see it

Winnipeg Pros: They get immediate help to make a push for the playoffs. Tyler Myers will be an even better dman with the Jets because of their stronger defensive corps. Stafford is a good fit for Winnipeg and can fill the hole left by Kane. Armia is one of the most talented players in Europe right now and Lemieux should E eventually find a spot in the NHL. The first round pick in this year's draft has potential to be an NHL mainstay as well. The icing on the cake is moving out Kane now and fixing the distraction he was in Winnipeg when they are just outside a playoff spot.

Buffalo Pros: They just picked up two young players on longer contracts who may develop to their full potential in their prime with them. A possible perennial 30+ goal sscorer in Kane and a dman in Bogosian who may be a late bloomer that is a suitable replacement for Myers (mobile, right hand shot, can generate offense.) In this case losing two roster players and only receiving one back who is ready to play helps them to tank for McDavid.

Analysis: Great trade for both teams. It benefits the Jets more right now, but I think it'll even out over a couple years. Great move by both GM's.

McJesus15

1.) I agree with you in the way that there is no way to grade this trade until a year or two from now. Been hearing a lot about BUF losing big time, but with a potential franchise C added at the draft with Kane on the wing, they could be a scoring force faster than predicted while only giving up Myers (questionable upside at this point) and some good yet not amazing pieces.

Personally I think Buffalo made the right choice with this trade. But, like I said, it'll be a while til we know for sure.

2.) Totally agree, I like the trade for both teams. As you said Kane with McEichel would be awesome for sure. Myers will be a force and hopefully Lemieux and Armia pan as good NHL players. Finally a Blockbuster!

3.) Woot woot! Finally indeed! And one of those rare trades that will probably be a win/win for both sides down the road. Buffalo is going to have a terrifying top 6 pretty soon. Winnipeg will have a balanced and talented roster as well as depth, which they definitely lack up front. Who do you guys think will get moved in an off season blockbuster (if anyone) this summer?

Carolina would have to retain no less than 50% on each contract. Anything can happen, but I doubt this will very much.

Do observe the phrase 50% retained Boris. With a 3.5 miles cap hit Semin could be moved. The change of scenery could be very beneficial and he's only signed for 3 more years.

Bowman doesn't even listen unless the 1st is this years. Even then, it probably isn't enough for Sharpie. Hawks can do better in off season. Won't happen before deadline.

And I doubt Chicago fans are very happy. This year's first as well as one of their better D prospects. They better at least make the WCF for what they've given up. Chiarelli, Bergevin, Yzerman, and the GM'S who put faith in their current roster are smart to not blow such valuable assets on this expensive rental market.

The idea was reportedly proposed by Columbus, but yes, it couldn't have worked out better for either team. Brilliant transaction.
