Dallas Stars and Leafs have had talks regarding Phanuef. Leafs would either have to eat part of Dions contract or take back a bad contract. So I see it like this
Tor: Phaneuf
Dal:Hemsky and Faksa
Could even be off season.

I would think they could get more for him… Although Phaneuf is signed four years longer than Hemsky so I'd think salary retained would be more realistic.

Leafs looking to sign Bernier to a 2 year deal, then trade him to Dallas for Olecksiak (spelling?)
it would probably go like
Leafs: Bernier and Matt Finn
Stars: Niemi and Oleksiak

For these reasons:
-Bernier is still very young for a goalie
-Niemi had a TERRIBLE season last year, and SJ has a good defence
-Bernier has more potential
Bernier has more value (imo)
Finn looks like a bright kid and a great prospect to have. Doubt they will trade him. Oleksiak was drafted in 2011 (first round) and IS STILL trying to crack the roster. And Dallas' defence ain't so great. Oleksiak's value went down a lot.

I see Kari Lehtonen and Jamie Oleksiak traded to Toronto in exchange for Dion Phaneuf and a prospect or draft pick. Salaries are almost comparable. Leafs would then flip Lehtonen to the Islanders for salary dump and prospect

you say niemi had a terrible year (which is untrue imo), then what do you call bernier's year? worse sv% and gaa, and sj defence isn't much worse than TOR's really, its pretty bad beyond vlai and burns.

I agree with Shankar. I can't see them doing that after they jus signed Niemi. Not sure if Bernier is going to turn out the way he has been hyped . now I'm not sure if that's because he's on the Leafs. who have a weak team at the moment. kinda think his value has gone down. I believe it would be a fair trade. however , don't see it happening .

Buffalo: Moulson and a 3rd
Toronto: Lupul and Leivo
Caps are the same-ish
Ages are the same.
1.) Cap and age being the same doesn't mean they have the same value. I'd say they are similarly productive but Lupul is much more injury prone and loses value because of it
2.) That's why I put Lievo in as a back up, he's a solid prospect and puts up good numbers.
3.) Tor would be dumb to give up Leivo he can score they just need to devolop him a bit more then he will be a good player in the show
4.) Moulson has a no trade contract, but I think he would like to play in Toronto so he could be close to home (North York). Unless TML are looking at that trade as a player dump, it is waaaayyyy too much for Moulson and 3rd. When Lupul is healthy he is equal to Moulson & I get Leivo. WOW what a great deal for the Sabres.
5.) Sbr2017 Your tag makes it appear your a sabres fan yet you think Moulson would wave his NTC to get closer to his New York home. Buffalo is in the state of New York and closer to New York City so obviously that makes no sense
6.) @jbs32 I think sbr2017 said North York which is part of metro Toronto. Not much different than Manhattan is part of New York city.

I think that most Leaf fans finally understand that it will take a few seasons to rebuild the right way. Zajac at his age, contract and term don't fall into what the team really needs. Just sayin
