IF Leafs are clearing house these two deals make sense
Deal #1
Tor: G Gibson, D Theodore, F Ritchie, 1st in 2016, 3rd in 2017(replace the third they lose cause of Babcock)
Ana: LW van Reimsdyk, Phanuef(1.5 retained), D Granberg, 4th round pick in 2016
The Ducks do it cause it gives them the last two pieces they need for a Stanley cup run they can either use JVR as Belesky's replacement or add depth to there lineup by pairing him with Kesler to make an amazing second line. JVR has great value obviously because of his size, skill, goal scoring ability, and great contract. And though the leafs retain 1.5 million on Phanuefs contract he gives the ducks a #2 d-man to pair with eitrr Vatanen or Fowler. Though it sucks to retain money from Phanuefs contract its worth it to add a future #1 goalie a young skillful D-man and a big skillfull prospect in Ritchie who can complement our smaller forwards great. Tell me what you think about it seems like it could happen since Anahiem has been rumored to be interested in both on many occasions.

That's Anaheims future right there pretty much.JVR and Phaneuf with salary retained is defiantly a great package but ducks would have to say no.

No from both sides, Anaheim loses too much and Leafs would have almost a 3 mil handicap for 7 years, then a 1.25 mil handicap for a year. Can't do it.

i agree ducks want to win now but another thing to look at is how big of cap trouble would be in next offseason. They're adding nearly 10mil in salary and still have to sign Haglien & Silfverberg. I know they 18mil in cap space but that would go down real quick. They would probably lose Kesler and possibly Anderson for nothing with contracts coming up with the likes of Kesler, Anderson, Gibson, Vatanen, Lindholm, Despres & Rakell. Its a great trade value wise and JVR and Phaneuf are still kind of young so they could help out in the future it's just not worth it for the ducks at the this point.

i like the trade but how about ducks take away the 3rd and leafs add a 3rd and possibly a C+ - B- prospect then I think it would be fair value. But very solid trade proposal though works for both teams

@Dawson67 We all thought and knew Kessel was being traded! What we "Leaf haters" were preaching is that you Leaf fans thought he was going to fetch WAY more than he is worth. We were laughing at all your Kessel proposals because they were rediculous. this one favors the Leafs big time as well, yes Ducks want to win ow, but this is giving up way too much of their youthful great prospects. Not a chance Ducks do this.

I am not saying this would/could happen but Anaheim is in win now mode. Phaneuf and JVR could be the vital pieces for a serious cup run.

Potential deal between Leafs-Canes

Would then allow the leafs to get 2 picks in The top 5(Hanifin & Marner)
A realistic deal unlike the propsoals that have the leafs having 4 picks in the top 10 this deal helps both teams while showing Leafs Nation Shanahan is serious about building through the draft

JVR is good, but wow not THAT good. And Detroit wasn't willing to give up Mantha for Phanuef and the deadline, I don't think that would have changed between now and then. They will likely go hard for Petry in free agency instead.

Bozak is worth a 1st just not in this draft! You need to remember come crunch time next season when teams are looking to bolster their roster for a playoff run they look to guys like bozak and lupul! Guys that can man the third line but also be moved up to play top 6 minutes . Bozak would probably fetch a late first round pick probably 25-30 or a 2nd and a b level prospect lupul on the other hand would only fetch a 2nd rd pick and maybe a c level prospect

Anyone else feel it would be smarter to Draft Hanifin over Strome if we had the chance because I do agree to the motto that great teams are built from the net out and a future defense core of Reilly and Hanifin is scary and let's not Kid ourselves well be back in the llottery next year and we can hopeully grab Matthews the big strong center we have coveted since Sundin so in my eyes if everything goes great the leafs will leave:
1. Trading Phanuef, Bernier or Reimer, Bozak, and Lupul(If possible)
2. Set up the base of a future Phil Kessel blockbuster deal for young players and prospects
3. Draft Hanifin 4th overall
4. Draft Jeremy Roy 24th overall
5. Attempt to acquire 1 more pick in the top 10

Everyone shut up about Him not being a #1 defenseman first of all Toronto has made him out to be a #1 D-Man not a #2 if he gets traded onto almost any other team he is quickly going to be either there #1 or a really good #2 don't hate on him ya he may be slightly overpaid but there is no doubt in ny mind that Leafs will retain a million in any deal if they do he will fetch a nice a good package for Toronto but enough of all the hate on Phanuef ya he may not be the best defenseman or in the upper tier but he is definitely a #2 on a great team

Why would leafs do this type of trade right now one year into a rebuild its ridiculous getting rid of our future #1 D-Man and a definite top 2 pick in next years draft with a chance on Auston Matthews no deal for leafs let's continue the right way and it doesn't make sense since were finally starting to build right this deal is like taking 2 steps back
