MIN:
Niederreiter

CAL:
1st (16th)
Ferland
Kylinton/ Gillies

This helps MIN by not losing Niederreiter to the expasion, they get a middle 6 foward, a mid 1st, and a blue chip defensman/ goalie.

CAL obviously gets a top 6 RW who they are desperate for. He fits their age range and will be a huge help.

The whole deal does fall apart if MIN can deal two of Zucker/ Coyle/ Granlund/ Brodin/ Dumba/ Spugen as they will be able to protect Niederreiter.

No way from Calgary. Nino is not worth that much at all.

2.) 18 May 2017 15:21:26
Replace Kylington/ Gillies by a lower tier prospect and it could be doable.

CAL : 1st, Porier, Hickey

MIN: Niederryder.

That's bad.

2.) 10 Feb 2017 18:11:18
I wouldn't necessarily hate this from Calgary, but they have about 3 middle six RW. What they need is a first line RW and Niederiter is not that.

3.) 10 Feb 2017 19:37:40
The entire Wild team (especially Nino) are on an absolute tear right now. No way they trade a big peoce when they don't need to.

4.) 11 Feb 2017 04:42:32
I work with the MN Wild organization and they have a big decision in front of them regarding three players. Erik Haula, Nino Neiderreiter, and Mikael Granlund. All are upcoming restricted FA's and cap room is limited.

I think Haula is the odd man out unless he is willing to take less money to stay in Minny since he played college hockey here it's possible.

Granlund isn't going anywhere.

Neiderreiter is a top 6 forward on this team. If you haven't watched them play then you can't make that call.

So how about a PIT/ CAL trade:

PIT gives:
P. Kessel

CAL gives:
M. Giordano
2nd
M. Klimchuck

CAL gets one of the best pure snipers in the game. He could play with Gaudreau or separate on the 2nd line.

PIT gets a top 20 defenseman in the league who plays against the leagues best and wins. (look at the last 3 yrs. not the last month) He would really solidify the defense. The pick and prospect are to offset the age difference.

Contacts are the same length and only 50k separates their AAV. Kessel is the better player so CAL probably adds but I feel there is a base of a trade here.

Thoughts?

No from Calgary. When Gio is healthy and at the top of his game he is a Norris candidate. Adding a second and a prospect as well is way to much.

2.) 15 Nov 2016 16:01:57
Gio is too old and is already losing a step and will never again be mentioned in the same sentence as a Norris candidate. Large contract in his non-productive older years alone should make Pittsburgh breathe an easy no to this proposal let alone that Kessel is still pretty young and was a 2nd to the Cros for Conn Smyth consideration. Pittsburgh is playing great as it is so really no need for them to do anything drastic.

3.) 16 Nov 2016 05:18:13
Funny when kessel was in t. o he was garbage. But now he is one of the best pure scorers. I agree he is but shows how much leaf haters there are.

4.) 16 Nov 2016 07:44:00
I wouldn't call him one of the best pure goal scorers lol and obviously he's doing better in Pitt like come on lol.

5.) 16 Nov 2016 22:15:35
People have always called his game one dimensional and in his 6 years in Toronto only stamkos and ovechkin scored more goals, I'd say that's a pure goal scorer. Not to suggest he's better than either of those 2 players at all, but he did it with Tyler bozak being his most consistent linemate, not Martin St. Louis and nik backstrom. One day someone will give Phil the respect he deserves.

6.) 17 Nov 2016 03:23:14
Don't care what team he plays for, Kessel is still one-dimensional and overrated. And overpayed.

Sorry I hit enter before I was done.

So my offseason plan for the Flames:
1. Goalie
2. Top Winger
3. #4 Defenseman
4. Dump cap

Now for this I'm assuming Calgary drafts 5th and gets Dallas' 1st rounder

1.
Flames acquire: F. Andersen
Ducks acquire: Dal 1st (#27) and Cal 2nd (#35)/ Porier/ Klimchuck/ Shinkaruk

Calgary gets a starting goalie. Anahiem won't lose him in an expasion draft and gets a nice package of picks/ nearly NHL ready fowards. The value of the players varies so add and drop late picks or other players as needed.

2.
Calgary acquires:
K. Okposo 6yrs x 6-7mil

Okposo signs with the young and upcoming Flames to be the top RW.
Backup plan: Hayes and/ or Nichushkin.
Flames add RW depth and could be cheap as the two had disappointing season and are RFA. I'm not sure of value but starting at FLA 2nd might be a good start.

3.
Calgary acquries:
T. Hamonic
NYI acquires:
D. Wideman (50% retained) Cal 3rd and B. Kulak

Flames get a top 4 d-man on a very nice deal. It also steals another defenseman from EDM ;) NYI gets a cheap-as-hell Wideman for 1yr, an ok pick and a B level defense prospcet. Not the most fair deal but Snow has his hands tied with the trade request and he's not getting anywhere near what he thinks he will get.

It's a bit of a pipe dream and if it can't be done Flames resign Nakladal and promote within.

4.
Calgary acquires:
ANA 7th
ANA acquires
M. Raymond, CGY 4th

CGY dumps a terrible deal ANA gets a middle 6 winger with offense and a pick.

Flames opening lineup

Gaudreau-Monahan-Okposo
Colborne-Backlund-Frolik
Jorris-Bennet-Shinkaruk
Bouma-Stajan-Ferland
Bollig-Grant

Brodie-Hamilton
Giordano-Hamonic
Jokipakka-Engelland
Nakladal

Don't read too much into the lineups, I don't know who will play with who.

I'm not sure if the cap will all work out, probably not with Monahan and Gaudreau deals upcoming.

First trade is meh I think Anaheim could do better although it is better then the deals I have seen for Andersen lately. CGY would be lucky to sign Okposo but I really don't see him ending up there. The Hamonic trade is a joke and so is the Raymond one as Raymond is NOT very good offensively anymore and can't play D to save his life.

2.) 25 Apr 2016 06:01:27
Please tell me I'm reading that 1st request right, .2nd OR Poirier OR Klimchuck OR Shinkaruk? Because if it's all and the DAL pick on top, you're insane and Andersen, who's good, is not worth that much.

I wouldn't bother with going after Hamonic. Not that that deal would get him. At the expansion draft we'll probably opt to protect 7 fwd's and 3 D. We would likely lose one of Gio, Brodie, Hamilton or Hamonic. Not worth giving up the assets to acquire him for likely only 1 year.

And I'd rather buy out Raymond and pay only around $1 mil for 2 seasons than give up a 4th. Just my opinion on that.

3.) 25 Apr 2016 07:55:06
@SC4CGY Correct I did mean or the prospects for the first deal.
Hamonic is a nice thought but I know it won't happen. I belive a #4 is more likely to come internally.
I just don't like the thought of paying Raymond to not pay for us.

4.) 25 Apr 2016 09:37:29
Ducks will not take Raymond. Looks like they will already have cap issues with all the soon to be UFA/ RFA.

Solid return for Andersen I like it and Tkachuk could fit nice in your top 6 for less money.

2.) 25 Apr 2016 01:27:35
Where's 3 and 4?

3.) 25 Apr 2016 02:35:39
I like the Anderson trade. Can Flames sign afford Okposo? Unless Stammer is UFA he'll be the most highly coveted UFA Prize.

I like it. CGY gets a guy who might be a starter. Similar situation to Talbot. NYR get a really great prospect who might be an all right backup next year. Gilles is also expansion proof.

Calgary doesn't need another centre. Brodie is an elite defensman who is on one of the best deals in the NHL. He is easily worth Rienhart+.

I will admit Brodie is having a sub par year but that's after having 3 years of great to elite play.

Why do the Flames do this?
Did you just pick 7 Habs and think "yep this looks good". Well it doesn't. Stop it.

Value is ok but Radulov is on the right track (Gaudreau is already signed) Flames have $0 cap space. The only way the money works is the Rangers retaining 50% and taking a combination of Smid, Wideman and/ or Bouma. Those contacts aren't equal so adjust retention for the trade to be salary neutral.

Like I said value is fine maybe Flames add if Rangers retaining more than necessary.
