Columbus already had a solid top 4 D in werekski, jones, Johnson and savard
and JVR can be a good top 6 winger who could play with wennberg and panarin

Leafs replace JVR role with marleau and get a top 4 defencemen

I think JVR is more valuable than Murray and also Toronto would be better if trading it for a RHD than an LHD.

Columbus has no need for top-6 LWs. We already have Panarin, Foligno, Jenner, and Calvert with Dubois looking to push for a roster spot. What we need is a top 6 centre, and with Murray being our most prized trading chip, I can't see us parting with him for someone who isn't a centre.

Aren't he leafs looking for a RHD? I mean I honestly don't think Murray would take a spot from Reilly or Gardiner right now, so trading JVR for a 3rd pairing dman for them seems rather odd.

Guys its 1 year of JVR. he's a great player but he's not getting a great long term player.

Only way leafs take a LHD is if they are far better than rielly, Which Murray is not. Rielly, gardiner, hainsey on the left. Zaitsev then a big drop off on the Right. Save jvr for the player they need.

Dont really think Calvert is a top 6 winger. he's a bottom 6 guy.

Also, even if value is there, Leafs don't need a LHD.

But still imo, I think Murray > JVR based on xontract status and position.

Not a good fit for either team as mentioned above.
CLB are intersted in a center like Duchene and Tor should go after a top 4 RHD to play with Reilly.

Yup-Rielly is on the 1st pair so they'd need a top 2 D not top 4. They already have Zaitsev.

I think before all the signings for the leafs, leafs should have tried to offer sheet parayako. Blues would have tried and matched it but they have been tied with cap especially if they're trying to improve from last seasons roster. Would have been a long shot but 3 first rounders that will have been in the late teens early 20s for the leafs would have been worth it to bring in a good RHD in parayko. Imagine parayko-reilly, gardiner-zaitsev, carrick-hainsey, defence core. Would be young, and would become an amazing core. Then with Matthews, marner, nylander, kadri, brown, Jvr (or kappy) that would be another solid top 6 that would be great for the leafs. Along with our amazing prospect pool with brooks, dermott, lilijgren, rychel, bracco, neilsen, grundstrom etc. If we didn't lose 3 first rounders or so we have some solid prospects to hopefully make up for that. Just an idea.

My honest opinion on the marleau signing is that it was brilliant. I mm not denying the fact that JVR is better and younger because he is and is a great top 3/ 6 winger on any team. But It makes sense to bring him in because he can be a good veteran presence for the leafs rookie (same with hainsey) and that can fill a left wing hole that can replace JVR so we can trade him for a good young defence (along with other prospects amd picks) 3 years is a lot and I think they should have tried for 2 and it is a lot of money but I think lou is making the right choice and it will do more good than harm for the leafs longterm.

I'm Just glad it moved Hyman down the lineup. Hyman is not a top 6 forward.

I was there. I flew to Chicago from Toronto and watched it live and my comments were boy everyone hates Bettman. I think that Kostin should have been drafted later he's going to pull a radulov. Not impressed with andersson. I think liljegren was a great pick up for Lou and the leafs. And my prediction is that Patrick will be better than hischier.
