Martin Brodeur has seen a lot of things in his 14 years in the NHL, however Saturday night was a 1st. As the Devils tried to kill off a 5-on-3, Rangers winger Sean Avery planted himself of the Devils' goalie, facing Brodeur and with his back to the puck, and waved his hands and stick in his face.

The Flyers have not extended Jason Smith's contract and, as stated by Western scouts, tried unsuccessfully to move the defenseman at the trade deadline. The Devils had tried to get Smith at the deadline, as stated by one league official, however were not willing to offer a decent return.

In a worst case, the Devils will have a new look whilst continuing to struggle offensively. Brent Sutter's solution to his team's anemic scoring output, at least for now, is a retooled line that will move slumping Travis Zajac from center to right wing with Dainius Zubrus at center for tonight's home game against Tampa Bay.
