Edmonton have plenty of young high Draft Picks they are patiently waiting to develop, both Teams are rebuilding but Edmonton needs that Leader type Player to help in the rebuild who will be a Top 2 DMan on the backend, Leafs are looking at this years Draft as a great Draft to start there rebuild, a lot might say no way from Edmonton but the Oilers have long been trying to get Phaneuf for a long time now if you believe online chatter, and if you look at it from that way this Deal actually makes sense.

Leafs would have to add their first and at least another top prospect to get the oilers pick. If leafs players are worth that much how come they are not in the playoffs

Ok maybe it does make sense if it was 2016 but why on earth would Edmonton give up potentially the second pick in this draft which many are saying is a franchise type player. Yes maybe Dion Phaneuf does help this team because I don't really think he's a bad d man. He's over played in Toronto and plays against the top lines. But no this trade does not happen just because the 2015 draft is too strong.
It doesn't work.
First and foremost, Edmonton is not going to give up a top 5 pick in this draft. Unless they were getting back a really good young piece. I could see a Phaneuf deal to EDM with Marincin and a 1st involved, but not EDM 1st this year.
Second, Petry and Holzer are UFAs, so trading them to non-playoff teams doesn't really make sense.
Third, I can't speak to Edmonton's desire to acquire Phaneuf, but I can pretty much guarantee that McTavish knows what the real cost of Phaneuf will be and that does NOT include a top 5 pick.

This could work if leafs retain 1-1.5 mill off of Pheneuf and they have the space to do it after trading clarkson

How is it offside leafs fans think that all their players are worth first and second round picks if their players were that good the team would not be tanking as a sens fans should I say we should get a first for Phillips and condra will get us a second and a top prospect No cause I am realistic at least one team from Ontario tries to win

There are numerous reasons why your logic is offside, but the main reason is that your comment suggests that only playoff teams have valuable players to trade, which is simply not true.
Just bc TO can get a good return for 2 or 3 of it's players (that's ignoring the fact they already got a 1st for Franson and a 2nd and a 4th for Winnik), doesn't mean the team is a playoff team.
And your Condra and Phillips comment is just more proof you don't know what you're talking about.
