Buffalo trade - make some sense Grigorenko hasn't worked out great in buffalo and could use a fresh start and still is a solid prospec. Hodgson would be a cap dump but I think he is a lot better then how he's playing this year

Florida trade - fair value in my mind solid young dman for solid young forward

Pittsburgh trade - don't know enough about the prospect to know the value but I would consider keeping Polak. He appears to be a solid locker room guy

Calgary trade - would be a good deal for the leafs and you never know with brian burke on the other end but I can't see calgary doing it.

Philly trade - hate it for a couple of reasons. Vinny is a salary dump which toronto doesn't need. Also by retaining 50% of Phanuefs salary toronto would be screwing themselves for years to come. There is no way toronto will ever retain that much of his salary they would keep him before making a deal like that. between his retained salary and vinnys salary dump that's like having a 7 million dollar player being a healthy scratch every night.

You realize the leafs are rebuilding right, which means the leafs will suck for a couple years.
Retaining salary/taking a bad contract doesn't screw a rebuilding team for years, it helps them maximize the return on the asset they dealt.

The team is not going to compete either way so do you wanna trade phaneuf for a 2nd round pick or do you wanna trade phaneuf for a 1st round pick and 2 prospects.

@Leafhate
haha I think we are going to agree to disagree again.

I think if a team like the redwings or ducks get knocked out early from the playoffs they will be more open to pay up for a dman like Phanuef

also there are a lot of teams that are in need of defence like dallas or edmonton

i think if toronto takes back a bad contract they wouldn't have to retain much if anything and they would still get a 1st rounder or a high end prospect

No from Calgary. I wouldn't trade Bennett for Kessel straight up.

Reason #1: Kessel would be a terrible fit in Calgary because Kessel is fat and lazy.

Calgary is widely known as one of the hardest working teams in the league. Kessel is widely known as one of the laziest players in the league - not only for backchecking and defensive play but also for physical fitness and conditioning.

“Honestly, I skated maybe—I don’t want to tell you this—but I skated 10 times maybe all summer, ” - Phil Kessel, September 18, 2014

Reason #2: Kessel has zero leadership skills and has displayed questionable mental toughness

This should be self-evident, but his fight with Booth in practice today was more evidence. Maybe he should bring that fight into a game sometime.

Reason #3: Kessel has been instrumental in Leafs previous meltdowns, most evidently the current one.

Kessel is inconsistent within seasons and has continuously trailed off in production as the season ends. Consider his stats from this meltdown:

Kessel's stats from Dec 17-Mar 21:
• 247th (tied) in even-strength goals (3)
• 336th (tied) in even-strength points (7)
• 142nd (tied) in total points (20)
• 158th (tied) in total goals (7)

He only has 3 even strength points in 2015. For such an elite sniper and offensive talent, when was the last time he scored a goal - any goal? Kessel is dead last in +/- this season at -38 along with his linemates at -37 and -36. What good are goals when you are on the ice for 38 more than you score?

How about Kessel's last game: 0 points, 2 PIM, -3. Classic Kessel.

This dreadful play is very likely due to Reason #1. His poor level of physical fitness is insufficient for a professional hockey player to maintain his production over the course of an 82 game season and playoffs.

Verdict: trade Kessel for future considerations, a bag of pucks, or a sack of garbage.

Eazy E just nailed it. Kessel will be traded and Leaf fans will be surprised by the return.

28 Mar 2015 00:49:42
Reason 1 shows your tunnel vision easy e.
"Kessel would be a terrible fit in Calgary because he's fat and lazy"
If physical conditioning and fitness were so very
important to Calgary why did they draft a player who failed miserabbly at the combine, he couldn't even do one pull-up.

Kessel has missed less games to injury in his career than Bennett has this season.

My verdict: get over the fact that kessel is better at life than you and stop trolling so that people can take you seriously and everybody wins.

28 Mar 2015 01:03:46
Love it @Eazy E but I think Kessel will get a decent return and if his production picks up he'll get a good return. And ya he's fat but he still has crazy speed. Not going to argue the lazy part or anything else

28 Mar 2015 12:28:54
@tmleafs I was giving an example in my response, I agree with you on phaneufs value.
The point I'm trying to make is that the leafs should be willing to retain salary on phaneuf because I want them to not rush this rebuild and do it right.
so having 3.5 million against the cap shouldn't affect the team much if they're not competitive for a few years anyway.
But getting a huge return of good young assets will.

28 Mar 2015 14:49:40
"he couldn't even do one pull-up"

That may be, but I would bet $1MM that Bennett's work ethic is 100 times what Kessel's is. Kessel has almost a decade of laziness on his record and it will be a minor miracle if he can actually work hard. Bennett is an impressionable rookie and mouldable. Putting them in the same category is ridiculous.

"Kessel has missed less games to injury in his career than Bennett has this season"

So? Kessel may have missed less games, but the way Kessel dogs it out on the ice game in-game out, the number of games Kessel has actually showed up to approaches Bennett. Kessel is a flake.

"My verdict: get over the fact that kessel is better at life than you and stop trolling so that people can take you seriously and everybody wins"

I cite quotations and statistics and make conclusions. You do not respond to them or cite your own. Whenever I raise actual facts and opinions, rather than addressing the argument, you get personal, avoid the issue, and call me a troll. Even though I enjoy arguing, bickering, and debating, your childish responses are getting slightly taxing.

You state that Kessel is doing better at life than me. Really? One: you don't know me. Two: how good do you think Kessel has it right now? Do you think he's enjoying life despite his $8MM contract? You couldn't pay me enough money to be that guy or be on that team right now.

Enjoy more jerseys getting thrown on the ice.

29 Mar 2015 10:38:33
I stopped reading at I would bet 1 mm that Bennett's work ethic is 100 times what kessel's is.
^ this is garbage just like your opinion on kessel and his trade value.

29 Mar 2015 12:02:38
@easy e reason 2 above you say kessels fight in practice is evidence he has zero leadership qualities and questionable mental toughness.

here's a list of players that also fought in practice and by this/your logic this is proof they all have zero leadership qualities and questionable mental toughness.

Pk subban
Wendel Clark
Brandon Dubinsky
Roman Josi
Evgeni malkin
Tomas plekanec
Saku koivu
Just to name a few

30 Mar 2015 15:41:38
Reason 3
I agree kessel is not a perfect hockey player.
I agree he is having a terrible year by his standards.
I agree his stats over the course of his slump (35 days or so right?) were terrible.
I think all players are inconsistent within seasons not just kessel.
I think phil kessel needs too and will show up in better shape next year.
Then you suggest giving kessel away for a bag of pucks or a sack of garbage.

I get your point easy e you think kessel is crap.
Your not getting mine, your opinion is crap, your not being logical and if your "plan" was executed the acting gm would immediately be fired so forgive me if I don't have enough respect for you too get back to your "points and facts" sooner.

You get it yet?
Act a fool and I'll treat you like one.
