awful post shake your head, all those trades were awful. jvr+kessel cold garner a lot more and cap won't work either, oilers will draft hanafin anyways so why swap picks. just take strome 4th overall. lupul won't get a 2nd, kadri trade is okay. mehhh

phaneuf to move up 1 spot? are you serious? its not like you're moving from 3 to 2, then maybe it can be justified. NYI winsthat deal easily too. the rest are ok I guess, except for lupul for a 2nd, he's not worth nearly that. but all in all, ts very bad.

Phaneuf is a ok d men but is salary is the problem!
No one want him because once you get him then you have no choice because of is salary to count him as an impact player when its not the case

lol montrealfinest, you do realise that phaneuf woudl be the 2nd best defenseman on monstreal, right? also, accoridng to dreger (i have no link, heard it on the radio a few days ago), detroit was offering pulkkinen + smith + cap dump weiss for phaneuf at the deadline. so yes, I would much rather hae 4th oa + pulkkinen + smith than 3rd oa. you can say whatever you want about phaneuf and his contract, but the best ran organization in the league has no trouble taking him on and paying a pretty good price fr him imo, which speaks for itself.

Markov is a bether d man then phaneuf so he would be third and I don't know a lot of d man who are paid 7 millions and 3 rd in the Lineup

Shankar - the fact that the trade didn't happen is pretty revealing that they did not have the interest as outlined. right??
The problem with phanef is that his contract is too long for an excessive amount. Its simply a very bad contract. He is a very useful player but he is not a top 10 D man in the league, but he's being paid like one. Makes it tough for Toronto to move him and other teams to have a place for him as it limits their options with $ and CAP room - especially with the CAP not going up as much as expected.

yeah how did I know you'd say that, anyways, phaneuf is easily the better player when compared to markov. also, his contract doesn't seem to be a problem what he's paid for the people in management whose opinions actually matter as it can be easily overcame.

It's because he isn't bad as you think he is. I read that they were given an offer and didn't have to retain a dime.
Hard to flourish when your D-partners are Gunnarsson, and Kostka.

@mbell - what I just said there a few posts above was DETROIT'S offer to toronto for phaneuf. tornotn didn't take it. apparently they wanted mantha coming back.
so yes, the interest as outlined was there, but TOR wanted more/better.
