Ha! Told you Leafs had to retain money in order to get a decent piece back (Kapenen). No this doesn't hurt the Leafs right away, they don't have many big players to sign, but what if they want to and all of a sudden do! Always plan for that. And this is awesome. Retained money AND didn't get Pouliot or Maata. This is the best they got for the biggest superstar in the game!! Haha! This was a good return if no money retained. But, Pens won that trade.

You're an intelligent kid Yep. Considering it was 50/50 whether salary would be retained or not, you nailed it. Many teams in the league owe money to players. Look at Detroit with Weiss. Did they plan on owing him $1.7 for years to come because he isn't worth what they paid him? The leafs management has them owing more players than they should. Sometimes things in life don't go according to plan. You'll learn that as you grow.

And you posted ridiculously over-the-top garbage for Kessel and I told you every time that it was waaay too much. What they got isn't anywhere near the highway robbery you wanted from the Isles. There were a couple decent proposals for Kessel (not by you) that I agreed with and they were much more in the ballpark than the huge packages you expected for Kessel.
