As everyday passes the more confident I am that Steve Stamkos will not resign in Tampa otherwise he would have done so already! Tampa will have some contracts to extend next year Yzerman knows that he won't be able to fit Stamkos in the cap so there are two things he can do 1 - trade him and try to get max value or 2 - let him walk for nothing. There are reports that Stamkos wants to be the highest paid in the NHL ie 11M x. rs is he worth more than Toews? I don't think so! This is where I think the Leafs should jump in and make an offer they do have the cap space and finally a superstar they can build their team around

If the leafs waited couldn't they just resign him for free in the offseason? Also Morgan Reilly has been said to be off limits. What the leafs should do is hire Paul titanic, who was his coach when he was young, in high school, and is his friend, for the soul purpose of recruiting stamkos

If he walks he might be able to get the max contract like 14 mil a year on a team like Toronto or Arizona witch Tampa can't afford.

If Stamkos wants 8 years at 10.5 he's staying in Tampa they would happily give him that. Stamkos not resigning is worrying but these deals take time and he wanted some time off after the long playoff run. Still not sure he'd want to sit through the leafs massive rebuild he knows from experience 1 guy won't make you a playoff team.

as much as I think Stamer wants to come to TO, I don't think they will part with Rielly yet, he's the future in terms of defence.

I agree he is not resigning with tampa, But tampa will also not trade him this season.
They have a legit shot at winning the cup this year, if they trade stamkos, their most important player, they defiantly will NOT have a shot at the cup.
Also don't kid yourself about his salary. Stamkos will hit the open market and get an 8 year closer to 12 million dollar contract. Free agents always get overpaid and there are teams who would offer him that.

Wait until Drais reads this. Stamkos is worth more than that. Reilly hasn't really proved too much yet. It's obviously going to be a very high 1st but it would still take more than that.

Leafs don't want to give up Riely, he is going to be the cornerstone of their defensive unit in a couple seasons. Also, why would tampa try to trade for Riely anyway?
They have defensive prospects, (albeit none are as good as Riely) and Hedman, who is one of the best TWD men in the league today. After Coburn and Carle are either traded or released, Tampa will have all the cap they need to resign Stammer.
That being said, it would be amazing to see Stamkos come to the Leafs. Whether it be through trade or free agency. I don't see Tampa trading Stamkos.

The only way Toronto would get Stamkos is through FA. He will not be traded to anyone. Period. Chances are he resigns to a contract similar to toews and Kane with the bolts. It would be a dream though if he did come home.

Haha let's be real here stamkos is going to sign for 10.5 million minimum but the scary part is This! There a lot of rumors of stam going to the leaf who since they are the leaf would pay 14 milion to get him!
Now stamkos is no fool he know that as well and if i'm him i'm going in a bitting war with tampa! That the worst case senario since leaf are a bigger market then bolt!
But my prediction in a best case scénario , is that stamkos is going to sign for 12 milion in tampa and by then if kopitar was in the free agency at the same time, montreal sign kopitar at 8.5 to 9.5 million so that leave the leaf with nothing and once again get outplayed

TB will not trade Stamkos. TB will not let Stamkos walk for nothing. If so it'll cost JVR, Reilly/Nylander & 2 1st round picks and I don't think Toronto would do that.
