Boston / Calgary

Bruins trade
-Brad Marchand
-NYI 2016 2nd
-BOS 2017 3rd
-Zach Trotman

Flames trade
-Dennis Wideman
-Markus Granlund

Boston gets a puck moving, top 4 offensive Dman they could really use. Wideman is coming off a career season , putting up 56 points.

Calgary gets an addition to their top 6 (Monahan,Gaudreau,Hudler,Frolik, Benett and now Marchand). Calgary also adds some quality draft picks over the new few season.

Does this trade help/make sense for both teams?
Thoughts?

As much as we need a top 4 mobile Dman i'd rather keep Marchand, He led our team ingoals without PP time and is better than people think on the PK.I've also watched Behind the B and if Marchand is traded the entertainment factor is just gone

@TheNumbnut
I don't follow Boston too much, but those seem like legit reasons why Boston would decline. Maybe switch Erikson with Marchand then?

I think if they were to acquire a top 4 d-man they would no go for Wideman

He earns 5.25m this year,
and 6m after this year.

Markus Grandland is an OK centre, but not that good to make Boston accept that salary.

Oh, and they apparently offered Cody Franson a deal.

Franson is younger, and can work better on the PP.
Also, Boston needs a puck-moving defenceman and Franson can fill that hole for them.

@NN21. I don't see why you think so highly of Franson? He's really not that good just a good shot. Wideman would run the PP way better then Franson. I wouldn't call him a puck moving Defenceman withered, he's slower then Chara.

15 Aug 2015 06:08:40
Let me rephrase that, not a good shot just a hard shot.

15 Aug 2015 06:32:52
wideman is better than franson. simply put, there is a reason he hasn't signed anywhere yet.

15 Aug 2015 06:45:44
Agree @BJ96 Ericsson is more likely to be moved as he is not as physical as Marchand. Btw. Didn't Wideman play with the B's a couple of deasons ago.!?!

15 Aug 2015 15:22:19
With Wideman there is NO gaurentee that he will play like he played before.
He might start declining, like any other defenceman his age.
Oh, and AGAIN he is highly overpaid.

15 Aug 2015 15:43:38
@NN21, yeah but who isn't over payed in today's NHL lol

16 Aug 2015 00:39:48
Bro, so you are willing to pay 6 million dollars for one year of an aging, declining NHL defenceman?

16 Aug 2015 15:45:35
@NN21 yes I would because it's only 1 year. IF and only if Bs can afford it.

18 Aug 2015 14:48:22
not good enough pieces coming back to Bos for having to give a decent D prospect/NHl'er and their 2nd line Lw. no thanks.
