Tor - James vanRiemsdyk, Dion Phanuef (1 mil retained), 2nd rd pick 2016

Ana - Cam Fowler, Shea Theodore, 1st rd pick 2016

Toronto gets Fowler who is younger then Phanuef and fits better with the rebuild. Has already estabished himself as a solid top 4 guy. Theodore is a top prospect that toronto could pencil in as another top four dman for the rebuild. They also get the ducks first round pick which will most likely be at the end of the first round while there second will be at the beginning of the second moving them up a bit.

Phanuef can play reliable top four minutes and will be more sheltered playing on a much better ducks team where he doesn't have to be the guy. The ducks also have many solid young d in Vatanen, Despres, Lindholm, Larsson which makes it possible to move young guys like theodore and fowler. vanRiemsdyk can add a big body to the top line and provides a huge upgrade on the left wing from Maroon. That would become one of the scariest lines in hockey and would be a nightmare come playoff time. His contract also provides them with great value.

this move improves the ducks now making them a cup favorite and makes the leafs worse which will help them insure a better pick in the draft.

Im a leafs fan and this is horrible

15 Aug 2015 19:26:53
LOLOL!! Hysterical.

The trade is fair in value IMO. JVR with Getz & Perry would be unreal and Phaneuf could benefit by being a 2nd pairing guy in Anaheim. it's just bad in the sense the ducks takes on 11.5 Mil in salary and only give 4mil. They have Lindholm, Vatanen, Andersson, Gibson & Rekall to sign next year, all will get big raises and this trade pretty much means they'll lose 2-3 significant pieces.

Poor Ducks. Far off.

15 Aug 2015 19:53:15
That's the best JVR trade I've seen so far. Works good for both teams. Ducks would be scary

15 Aug 2015 23:57:16
ANA would be a good team with this done, sure. however, they won't do it.

jvr = fowler
phaneuf, 2nd

This just shows how far off everyone on this sites judgement is from each other. I don't know enough about Theodore to even comment. BJ96 thinks it's fair value wise, seems to know hockey and not a leaf fan. Mk21 thinks it's fair. Chirp and Drais think it's ridiculous, know hockey but don't like any leaf proposals. Not bashing anyone, just don't know what to think.

16 Aug 2015 01:46:59
Lol. Ducks say no, Not even close.

16 Aug 2015 08:46:15
Whoever thinks this is fair is insane.

Fowler carries at the very least the same value as JVR. I'd say more, but I know Leaf fans will argue this, so for simplicity, let's say they're worth the same.
That leaves Theodore and a 1st for Phaneuf and a 2nd.
Phaneuf is definitely worth less than Theodore. Theodore is one of the league's best D prospects, this is a quote from Hockey's Future on him: "Theodore's physical attributes and defensive awareness, though, suggest he can be a top pairing two-way defender who frequently contributes to the attack at that level one day."

And well, guess I don't have to explain how a 1st is worth more than a 2nd.

So:

Fowler >= JVR
Theodore > Phaneuf
1st > 2nd

Very interested how this is considered "fair value".

16 Aug 2015 13:56:12
JVR, Phaneuf, 3rd
for
Theodore, Ritchie, 2nd

Giving up Fowler is just too much

16 Aug 2015 15:44:17
JVR has more value then Fowler.
Theodore has more value then Phaneuf
1st has more then 2nd, duh.

I said it's fair but by no means is it perfect. If Anaheim changed the 1st into a 2nd or 3rd both teams would consider.

16 Aug 2015 16:22:57
Need a cap dump going back to Toronto aswell

16 Aug 2015 16:41:13
& @Draisaitl if that's true then I see we're you're coming from and why ducks would say no. I knew Theodore is a good young prospect but I thought he was only projected as a top 4 not top 2.

16 Aug 2015 21:04:55
JVR is way better than fowler, Theodore(although MIGHt be a beast) there is no way to know for sure and Phaneuf is proven(while overplayed). JVR with Getz and perry would be unstoppable

17 Aug 2015 02:07:03
The trade is very Unlikely. Fowler is their best d-man I don't see him being moved.

however a lot of the logic against the trade is misguided. Phaneuf is a proven NHL d-man who can play top line minutes for a team that is thin in the backend and Anaheim has cup aspirations(which means the 1st in this trade is likely one of the last 4 picks). Theodore hasn't played a minute of NHL hockey yet, so get off the high horse on the value.

Like I said unlikely but certainly not the wash you're all making it out to be.
