Habs will only have a realistic shot if gally plays centre, desharnais is gone and they get another good 2nd line winger
Mtl: 1st, 2nd, Delarose, andrighetto, flynn
Win: Ladd, 4th
Mtl: Desharnais
NJ: 4th, 5th
Mtl: Emelin
Clb: 4th
Gally plays centre with pacioretty and semin and plekanec and ladd are togrther as the supporting 2nd line with gallagher

This would easily put them in contention
But does bergevin want to risk it??

Why do Montreal fans all want Emelin gone? I know his contract isn't great but he's a decent Defenceman and the only Habs Dman and one of the few Habs players in general with a physical aspect to his game.

It's not cause he's not good it's just that Montreal has so many young defenders ready to play in the NHL and they don't need a #5 dman taking up 3.5 million in salary. Tinordi, Patreyn, Barberio are all nice fits for that role.

Imo Ladd isn't the best option, while he is a good player, this trade would happen probably at the deadline if the jets are sure that they can't reach an agreement with him. Also, IF he signs a contract with the Habs in the offseason, he would probably ask for something around 7 millions aav for 5 years which would put MB in a tough situation cap-wise.

i think their thinking I that tinordi should be able to play emelin's role a 1/5 the price, althought he really cant.

Wouldn't give that much for Ladd.
De la Rose and 1st should be plenty, but again I doubt De la Rose will be trade bait

a good fit for DD could be Canes if they wish to trade ES who's going to be UFA after this season
Habs send DD, 1st, DSP, Gilbert, A'Ghetto & Reway to Canes for E. Staal & N. Roy
