If Pietrangelo isn't going to sign with St.Louis and if he truly wants to sign with Toronto there could be that sign and trade deal with Toronto that has been floating around, this type of deal lowers the AAV to probably 2m less because Pietrangelo can only sign 7yrs as a UFA but 8yrs with his current team The Blues, so here is my proposal.

St.Louis Trades

Toronto Trades
FGauthier (RFA)
Bracco (AHL)
5th Round Pick 2021

Yes The Leafs will have to get there Cap down before the start of the next season but they will be in a great position by adding Pietrangelo.

The Leafs should just try and sign Petro when he becomes a free agent in a couple of weeks. Besides I don't think that the Blues would want any of the cap swallowing trash this trade is offering.

Why would the Leafs offer anything considering he's a FREE AGENT? Trade Nylander/ Johansson and other for less paid players that actually work on the ice, get some picks, utilize players in the system.

Sounds like Pietro is keen on Vegas and Vegas is keen on Pietro. I could see them moving Fleury with some picks to a cap floor team (Ottawa? ), and some other players in order to get Pietro inked. Could take some creativity since they still need Lehner signed as well but I imagine they’re going to try pretty hard to make it work.

Pinball is NOT back. That yard sale collection of odds and ends doesn't move the needle on a horse like Pietrangelo.

Besides, the Leafs can't fit him under their cap AND fill out an NHL roster, so what is the point of a deal like this? You've already got 3 guys making 41% of your cap. that's not how you build a winner.
