VGK: Statsny, Martinez, Krebs
WPG: Roslovic

Vegas moves smart, Jets fill their current needs and add a top prospect.

Without even talking value, one thing stands out.

Statsny was a jet, was offered a contract to stay. Didn’t want to live there and so moved his family to settle in Vegas and got a NTC. No chance that 2 years later he waives that clause to go where he doesn’t want to be to help the team that promised him a spot. Makes zero sense.

The Jets would pay anything to take an aging, 34 year old Statsny and overpaid, 33 year old Martinez. The $10.5 mil contracts/ cap hit off of Vegas even for 1 year isn't worth it. Krebs would be a decent throw in but not worth Roslovic and the cap hit.

I wouldn't want the Jets to waste assets on Stastny as a cap dump and help Vegas out. If anything I would do Stastny and the Vegas 1st next year or Krebs/ Glass for a 7th in 2022 or D/ E prospect.

Yup. I meant to add that it’s not worth it value wise for jets either. teams know that the expansion rules that Vegas were given were so much better than what any other expansion team got. Teams lost good players and were extorted for picks/ prospects. Then to have these GM’s watch Vegas have immediate success and carry a sense of arrogance rubs people the wrong way.

I think other GM’s are going to watch Vegas sweat with their cap situation and really make them pay more than usual to help them out of the jam and chase Pietrangelo.

that’s not true he was offered more money in vegas jets were cap strapped he waved his nmc in the first place to get traded to wpg and would’ve re signed had he been offered more money, don’t know y he wouldn’t waive again.

He waved in the first place to go to a good playoff team at the expiry of his contract. Just because he did that to go play 20 games and a playoff run does not mean he would sign 3-4 years to stay. Big difference.

Shattenkirk waived to leave that same STL team to go to WSH and try to win a cup with zero intention of signing there after. He was NYR bound and everyone knew it.

Lol Krebs alone is an overpayment and Stastny is now traded to Jets for picks.

I haven’t seen anything CONFIRMED but if so. Fine, I was wrong

What catches my eye about this though is that IF Statsny was actually willing to stay back then, but Jets wouldn’t match Vegas $$$ then I’m awestruck. Why would Chevy give a 1st rounder for Statsny and then not pay the guy when he fit well, wanted to stay, fiilled a need only to turn around 2 years later and trade for him again with the same contract you refused to give him when he was 2 years younger?

And in the meantime he wasted another 1st on Hayes to fill the same role and wasted 2 years of that core without a 2C. just seems crazy to me

But I will admit I was wrong IF Statsny truly wanted to be there and Chevy just didn’t pay him. I thought Chevy was smarter than what this plays out to be. I gave him more credit than that. We will see.

You make a good point Sampson. He must’ve wanted more money to stay in Winnipeg than he got in Vegas?

I don’t know. It just reminds me of Francois Beauchemin with the Ducks. They had him, he was good for them, he wanted paid, leafs offered him 3x $3.8M and ducks wouldn’t match it. He left for Toronto.

He didn’t work out in Toronto, so a year and a half into the deal they traded him back to the Ducks and Got Lupul, a 21 yr old Jake Gardiner and a 4th. It blew my mind that they knew the player and liked the player and wouldn’t pay him, but then give up assets for the right to pay him the money you didn’t think he was worth.
