Winnipeg gets a solid top 4 defensemen on a good contract with lots of term.

Calgary takes a chance on a pure sniper with only 1 year left on his contract and who's probably looking for a big raise next year.

Both teams get something they can use and move a player they've been shopping.

Yoooo I’m a flames fan and Laine is worth way more. For Calgary to acquire Laine i'd assume it would cost around Andersson, Dube, 1st & a B+ or A- prospect

To get Laine the Jets would want quality not quantity. It would take a young #1 d-man not a bunch of 2nd line forwards, 2nd pairing d-men, prospects or draft picks. The Jets can be patient as they have control of him for 3 more seasons.

Hanafin doesn't have nowhere close to the value of Laine and the first doesn't close the gap much. Plus Hanifin is an LD and not a long term need. All in all, a very easy no from Winnipeg.

That would be the same as Calgary trading Monahan to Winnipeg for Morrissey and a 1st Round Pick.

I expected winnipeg fans would go ballistic over that but realistically it's about all you're going to get for a player who:

1. Is a high end sniper but
2. Isn't very good without the puck
3. Isn't very physical even though he's big
4. Only has one year left on his current contract
5. Is expecting a huge pay raise over the 6.75 mil he makes now.

If not for the existing flat cap you'd certainly get better offers but with things as they are now. If he actually was the superstar you all pretend to think he is then

a. He'd be on the first line not the second.
b. You wouldn't even think about trading him
c. The team wouldn't be shopping him.

Fact is the team doesn't want him because he's going want too much in a year's time and nobody else wants him either because not only does he want too much, the team does too!

The Jets aren't shopping Laine and he hasn't said he wants out of Winnipeg so until that happens most of these trade post are wishful thinking by posters wanting to see the Jets get fleeced. A lot of humorous post by the way.

Yet the Jet's couldn't even make the playoffs.

According to you the Jet's 2nd line players are better than Calgary's 1st line players.

Yet the Flames bounced the Jets out of the playin very easily.

You still haven't caught on Casual is making fun of you when he keeps offering Rasmus Andersson + more for all the players you want to get rid of. The Flames won't be trading Andersson anytime soon, especially not for an overrated one dimensional player on an expiring contract.

U nailed it MoxNix. Overvaluing of an asset seems to be what is happening here. GMs are not going to give up a boat load to turn around and give Laine $8.5M to $10M a year later. Especially with a flat cap. He's the true definition of a one dimensional player.

WPG would rather a player than a 1st, in my estimation.

I don't have a horse in this race, but as-is this deal doesn't get CGY a guy like Laine. Not even close.
