Lotta crazy trade suggestions from Leafies wanting Sam Bennett from Calgary. Trades have to make sense for both teams and none of the proposals make any sense for Calgary.

Here's one that does.

Toronto trades:
Zach Hyman
2nd round pick

Calgary trades:
Sam Bennett

- Cap hit is equitable with Bennett making 300k more.
- Bennett is 4 years younger
- Bennett has more upside potential
- Bennett is a center who can also play either wing.
- Hyman isn't a center but can play either wing.
- Both are currently playing on the 2nd line
but Hyman is a right shot playing LW and Bennett a left shot playing RW.
- Bennett is an RFA after this season.
- Hyman is a UFA after this season.

They'd basically take each other's spot in the lineup, putting a left shot at LW in Toronto and a right shot at RW in Calgary.

It’s fair

Hyman is the last player they would trade outside the big 3F. They’re looking for more intense, responsible forwards that are harder to play against. Hyman is the best we have at that. This is counter productive.

Bad trade for Toronto. Hyman is the superior player of the two. Hyman plays all areas well. Not sure why the 2nd round pick is there.

Toronto is not adding to Hyman for Bennett. If anything Calgary is adding a third on Bennet for Hyman.

I can see a 1 for 1 but not a 2nd too.

I believe the values are really close, but Toronto would be silly to do this trade.

Hyman is consistent, has chemistry with both top lines, and will probably be a leaf forever. Don't trade for bennett right now, if flames inconsistency has them out of playoffs at deadline, try to get him. Maybe a bit cheaper. If he goes elsewhere, great.

At deadline, kerfoot and a pick for bennett (unless kerfoot becomes solid) .
