Imo the leafs are going to make a huge push this season this deadline I could see 2 or 3 players added easily. Specifically a top 6 LW and maybe Chris Tierny

Note- RETAINING 50% OF A CONTRACT isn't A BIG DEAL FOR A RENTAL AT DEADLINE BECAUSE 75% OF ACTUAL SALARY IS ALREADY PAID SO IT doesn't MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN VALUE TO THE OTHER TEAMS. Think about it, it's logic and their are many examples.

Toronto- Jimmy Vesey and 2021 3rd

Vancouver- Tanner Pearson 50% retained

Toronto- The leafs get a solid 3rd line LW

Vancouver- is out of it and will move him to the highest bidder. I don't think any American team will want to deal with border issues so the bidding war will probably be between Montreal, Winnipeg and Toronto. I think that's the best offer they get.

Ottawa- Chris Tiereny 50% retained

Toronto- Alex Kerfoot, B prospect and 2nd 2021

Ottawa- the sens get a decent replacement who is more gifted offensively but is only mediocre defensively and they get 2 nice pieces for the future. He'll be moved to the highest bidder most likely unless if resigned. I think this gets him.

Toronto- gets a solid 2way 3C PKer.

Now the big piece at the deadline they're looking to acquire is rumoured to be Viktor Avidsson, Mikeal Granlund and Rickard Rakell. IMO Avidsson is the best fit.

Nashville- Viktor Avidsson 50% retained

Toronto- Pierre Engvail, Timothy Lilijgren and 1st 2021

Nashville- The predators will be sellers at the deadline and 2 1sts for Avidsson is a huge hull

Toronto- the leafs get a hard working top 6 winger he's a player you want in the playoffs

Lines-
Thortan-Mathews-Marner
Avidsson-Tavares-Nylander
Hyman-Tierny-Mikeyhev
Pearson-Spezza-Simmonds

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Dermott-Bogosian

Andersen
Campbell

Note- Thortan is listed on 1st line because of Chemistry but he will be shuffled around in playoffs due to fatigue Pearson/Hyman/Thortan will be moving around.

This is a cup caliber lineup imo it's a stronger roster then LA/Pittsburgh when they won their cups.

Pearson could fetch more than just a 3rd, Vesey is essentially worthless considering how he's played for the Leafs, and especially with 50% retention. I'd say Pearson at 50% is probably a 2nd + some depth AHL'ers like Vesey, a 3rd seems too minimal.

Tierney really isn't worth it, Kerfoot's underlyings show him as a solid enough defensive player and he also has more points at the moment. I definitely wouldn't be adding a B prospect and a 2nd to Kerf to upgrade, unless you're considering Kerf a cap dump, which again I think would be kinda harsh for a decent enough 2LW/ above average 3C with 4-7-11 in 19 games. Even though Tierney's retained 50%, I don't think all that for a rental is really worth it.

The Arvidsson trade feels like too little from Toronto as well. Engvall is a cap piece, that's all he is - Arvidsson at 50% for the next 3 years is 2.3 dead cap for the Preds, and the return is Liljegren, who is likely a #4 dman at the NHL level and a 1st which is likely to be between 26 and 32? Although he hasn't had a very good year, coupled with his struggles last year, I still think that at 50% as a non-rental at his age, he could probably get a bit more. Maybe I'm wrong, but that (Lilj/ 1st/ Engvall) is similar to Kappy's return from Pittsburgh, and I think Arvidsson>>Kappy.

Nylanders trade is fairly similar to the Zucker trade just with retention. Might have to add a little but it’s probably pretty close IMO.

You know what I think you’re right with the 3rd being upgraded to a 2nd in the Pearson trade. I’m sure that’d get it done because I’m sure their won’t be a huge bidding war.

The Zucker trade was a comparison.

I see tierny as a lot better fit for a shutdown centre then Kerfoot.

I see where you're going with Tierney. Thing is, I like Kerf on the Tavares wing tbh, but I do get wanting to get Tierney. That's a toughie. If we don't include the Arvidsson trade, and keep Kerfoot, and send Ottawa a B prospect + 2nd + 3rd or so, I think we'd be able to get Tierney, cause I do agree that a third line of Mikheyev-Tierney-Hyman would be an excellent matchup line.

Coming back to the Arvidsson trade, I myself forgot about the Zucker/ Addison trade, haha, and looking at it again, it's pretty similar. I guess the Kappy trade isn't really a fair comparasion cause Rutherford did overpay for him, but I think the age difference between Zucker and Arvidsson, + the retention would probably warrant an extra 2nd or so. that's my bad for forgetting the Zucker trade though, haha.

I think it’s a forgone conclusion that a top 6 winger is added to the leafs wether it be Avidsson or someone else. Tiereny would be such a good add tho would be nice if they wouldn’t need to add as much to Kerfoot.

I am sure every team in the league is going to retain 50%salary, to help the Leafs.

Why wouldn’t they? If the leafs are giving them assets. They’re rentals whoever wins the bidding war gets them.

With little to no fans in the stands, teams that won't be making the playoffs will also want to cut salary because of the huge cash losses taking place. if the leafs want teams to retain 50%, they will be paying a much higher price.
