Yes it's a trade proposal that would have the league spinning but if both teams are ready to change it up this would do that.

For Edmonton yes they are trading the best player on the planet but it just hasn't produced a winning team, they aren't getting chopped liver back as Matthews is a superstar in his own right and Rielly is a Top 4 Defenceman that adds offense from the backend, Kerfoot adds some decent numbers as a fringe second or third line centre.

What do The Leafs do to get over that monkey in The Playoffs ?
You trade for the best player in the NHL, now losing Rielly of course hurts but that's when Dubas does his second move and signs Dougie Hamilton as a UFA, Kerfoot wasn't in the plan all along because of contract only so doing this you replace Matthews and Rielly with McDavid and Hamilton which is an upgrade.

This trade is good for the Leafs but with Rielly being a UFA at the end of next season he will want more money then he is worth. Also the Oilers wouldn't want to spend that much on him and Kerfoot when they could use that $ to sign Hamilton.

Matthews and Nylander at the MINIMUM for McDavid. Rielly w/ o an extension isn’t worth much and Kerfoot doesn’t hold value in such a deal.
