I like the stralman target. A good low budget, steady dman on the 3rd pairing. Might be able to get with only a 4th round puck.

-Yes to the Montreal Trade.
-No to the Arizona/ Stralman trade. He's old and small and definitely not low budget @ $5.5mil. There has to be better trade options available in exchange for what you're offering out of Calgary.

The Montreal trade works for me but not the Arizona trade.

About the only player in Arizona I'd want is Chychrun but he'd be way too expensive for the Flames to acquire. It'll probably take 3 or 4 first round picks or equivalent players/ prospects to pry him outta Arizona.

When did y’all start hating Monahan. A few months ago, he was just a struggling star, now he’s in every proposal.

For me, when the Flames didn’t make the playoffs last season. I held out hope that Monahan would rest/ heal up and return to form until about 20 games in. At that point, I realized that another team might still be interested in him and have the time/ patience to get him back to where he used to be, but that I and the Flames don’t lol. I believe now is the time to go all-in to pursue the Cup. If the flames plan on making a go of it this year and the next couple years, they need to obtain a 2nd line Centre and RW and will need the Cap Space to do so.

Honestly I don’t even want Monahan on the ice anymore unless it’s a Power Play. Sutter should move him to a Wing. Every time I analyze the line-ups I don’t know where to put him, I want him sat, so it’s time to move on and trade him for a piece we need, like a rental (Hertl, Giordano, Pavelski or Subban) or package him for a C/ RW with term (Connor Brown, Tyler Toffoli, Josh Anderson, Pavel Zacha or I’d even consider Gallagher straight across at this point) .

Exactly. Last year it was obvious Monahan was playing injured. He had his off season surgery to fix that and was supposed to rebound this year but he hasn't, if anything he's actually been worse this year than last year.

Like Trevor said the Flames can't afford to wait for him to rebound any longer. Time to move him, reclaim some of his cap hit and get a useful center or RW.

I really like Zacha because he's young, big, fast, has skill and is on a very affordable contract. He can probably take over as second line center in Calgary now but even if he's not quite ready for second line center duty yet Backlund can continue doing that for another year or two while Zacha either centers the third line or plays wing on the second line.

Adding to that.

If Monahan's surgery was less than fully successfully they should send him off for more surgery and put him on LTIR. Then they could replace him now and wait till the off season to decide if they want to trade him or give him more time to recover.

Regarding Zacha another reason I like him so much is he's a player the Flames could afford to resign next year. He'd be a long term solution not just a playoff rental as a player like Tomas Hertl would be.
