This is an offseason trade proposal, likely before or during the draft.

Vancouver : Thatcher Demko

Buffalo : 2023 2nd, Jiri Kulich

Demko is 27, has 3 more years at 5M AAV after this one and doesn't fit Vancouver's rebuilding timeline. He's had a down year (like 80% of the Canucks team) but he's still a solid goalie. They would get one of Buffalo's three 2nd round picks and a decent prospect in Kulich to bolster their prospect pool

Assuming Anderson doesn't sign a contract into his 50s, Buffalo needs a steady presence in the net for them to be a real playoff contender. Buffalo has heaps of cap space for the next few years, why not have him play the big games and give more sheltered starts to one of Lukkonen or Levi while they develop.

Not even close to enough for Demko.

I had a hard time gauging Demko's value, but I think you may be right. Goalie value is sometimes hard to predict, since generally, their value is lower than players of the same talent at other positions. I could see a first being added instead of the 2nd or another prospect being added to the mix

MATADOR: I agree with you about determining goalie values. With only one starter per team, there always seems to be lots around, so there's usually a value to be had beyond the big names.

There are some teams, such as LA & FLA, who would appear to have a bigger need for decent goaltending. FLA is tied to Bob's awful contract for 3 years after this one, so I'd say LA is the most likely to have the prospects and picks to be able to find the right fit for VCR, in my humble opinion.

If Vancouver wants a fast rebuild, they'll probably have to trade him this offseason. No need to keep a capable goalie that could potentially make them a more middling team instead of a bottom dweller. If I'm VAN's gm and Buffalo really wants Demko, I'd ask for something along the lines of Ostlund, and two of the three 2nds that Buffalo has. If the trade were to be made before the deadline, I'd ask Buffalo to chip in Subban so that I at least have somewhat of a goalie tandem.

As a Canucks fan, I would be happy with that. Kulich is going to be a good player and a 2nd should be able to get the Canucks a defenseman into the pool.

Kulich is the last prospect not in the NHL buffalo moves ( Well him or Levi ) he looks like he’s going to be a star.

Mathew Savoie, Comrie and 2nd for Demko.

Buffalo looks like they could be patient on the goalie front. Colorado just got Georgiev for a 3rd so I don’t see Buffalo paying a high price for Demko.

@vbbbvvbb

You really place Kulich in front of Savoie in Buffalo's prospect pool? That's something
