0 chance Rantanen would re sign in Ottawa. Zero.
Also this package is way worse than what Carolina gave up to acquire Rantanen.

DrwDave it might not be as good but it ain't far off that package either. Plus you got to take into account that Carolina was likely losing Necas to free agency next off-season anyway, plus they had time to flip Rantanenen who they expected to sign but won't. It was never supposed to be a rental situation in their eyes when they traded for him. But in this case Ottawa would trade for him in the expectation that he is likely a rental for the playoffs with an outside hope to resign him that's not a guarantee. So yeah, his value will definitely drop now because of that just like with every other player. Look at Chychrun return Ottawa got for example after the boatload they gave to get him. Or DeBrincat for that matter, or Duchene.

lol @ DrwDave comment. "0 chance he would re-sign in Ottawa". any reason? is it because you don't prefer Ottawa?

To add to what DRW said, CAR made a calculated move in acquiring Rantanen, and they’re not going to blow that up after 6 games.

Nécas has an additionnel year.

1. Canadian small market team with obsessed fans and sports media that push unrealistic expectations.
2. Ottawa is not going to be contending for a cup until Rantanen is at least 32-33 and by then he'd be an overpaid roster player.
3. There's plenty of teams lining up to sign Rantanen this summer that can afford to pay him more than Ottawa/ Andlauer can pay.

I wouldnt try to compare the Chychrun return to what Rantanens trade value is.
That was just very poor asset management by Ottawa. Just because the Senators were willing to trade Chychrun for next to nothing, doesn't mean Carolina would be winning to do the same.
Hurricanes fans would probably riot if they heard the team traded away Necas to rent Rantanen and then flipped him to Ottawa 1 month later.
