Seabrook 🤢.

03 Aug 2019 04:15:02
I know VB, you don’t have to remind me, but I thought of it this way.

Marner=Debrincat+Gustafson
Hyman=Strome+Seabrook

It will take a lot for Chicago to dump Seabrook, and one of their young guns will likely be on the way out. I’m guessing it will be Strome because he is kind of a wildcard. Did he have a breakout year? Was it a one and done? Those are the questions Chicago’s management is probably asking themselves.

The leafs can take advantage and obtain 2 great young forwards and a top 2 d on an amazing contract.

Dubas has these ways of dumping contracts, I’m sure he can figure out how to dump Seabrook’s. (Whether he uses prospects or draft picks or even roster players to do so)

So.
How does this workout for the Leafs salary cap wise?
Seabrook has the least value in the league.
DeBrincat, Strome, Gustaffson going to need new contracts after next season.

Don't see anyone of those making less than 6.5M/ year if they have similar seasons.
Gustafsson will ask for like 7M+ if he has a similar season.

03 Aug 2019 06:19:10
Salary wise it's dumb for TOR bc of Seabrook, but value wise CHI easily says no. The gap between DeBrincat and Marner is certainly not a D that got like 60 (! ) pts last year and a 2C that finally reached his potential and played on a 70+ pt pace with CHI. No way.

You’re very biased @The_Triplets what do you think the gap between Kucherov and Marner is.

03 Aug 2019 13:59:53
VB
You’re saying he’s biased, but YOU are the one bringing Kucherov into the conversation and then getting angry when he says what you should expect him to.
You’re the one that began this Kucherov vs Marner bs.

Kucherov has nothing to do with this post, the Leafs, or the Blackhawks.

@triplets

This is like a focus on the cup now, and then we will figure out the rest later type of trade. If Gustafson can repeat the season he just had, he has the right to ask for his money. The leafs probably can’t re-sign him no matter what so he is just here to try and push for a long playoff run. Chicago also has no chance of re-signing him too with all of their bad contracts and Debrincat+Strome coming up, so it kind of makes sense to trade him.

Debrincat will probably ask for 8+ and Strome 6.5+ it’s actually not that much if you factor in that half of the leafs blue line will be gone after this season.

If Dubas can move Marceau and Zaitsev’s, he can figure out a way to move Seabrook with a package of Bracco+Liljgren or with a roster guy like Kappy.

I hope you guys no Gustafson is nothing special at all worth a 2nd tops one fluke season no defensive abilities.

03 Aug 2019 17:08:34
It’s almost sad how salty Vb gets when Marner is involved.

03 Aug 2019 18:03:32
Ya vbb gets heated, brings up stuff that has nothing to do with anything. Gus like 6th in points for defenseman. The greatest defenseman in history was 4th in points. Chicago has 11 mil in goalies off the books next year and think they'll go with delia and lankinen next year if they have good ahl years. That'll be a 9 mil savings. They should wait a while to trade any of strome, cat or gus till they play this year and decide which two to keep. I'm guessing gus is out cause the 3 top prospects are defenseman. But can't trade away the entire future just to get rid of Seabrook for a guy slightly worse than marner and strome AND gus, that's ridiculous. And say slightly worse in points, playing with strome and perlini is different then playing with superstars.

I agree with most of what you said shoots but most people, including yourself think Hyman is a 3rd liner. Yes Tavares is a very good center but you can’t have it both ways. Is Hyman a “superstar” or 3rd liner?

04 Aug 2019 13:44:37
Leafs17. Drake caligula played on Chicago's top line. Do you consider him a top line winger? No, he's a 4th liner Ideally. I shoulda said superstar, my bad. Hyman is a guy that can play on any line but so is Andrew shaw and Michael ferland. They're not top line guys but can fit in there.

04 Aug 2019 16:07:59
I’m one that thinks Hyman is more of a 3rd liner. I was just saying that at 5 on 5, Marner only plays with one really good player in Tavares.
