Winnipeg says no. Steel hasn’t done anything and is close to being passed over by younger guys, Zegras is a prospect that will take years to develop, so Lindholm is the only player coming back that helps them immediately, and he’s a defenseman, so Winnipeg’s offense takes a major hit and no forward is brought in to help mitigate the loss of Laine.

How has Steel not done anything and getting passed by younger players but Zegras has years to develop? Steel is 21 entering his second pro season. In his first he played 22 NHL game and scored 11 points if you ask me that’s fairly promising.

I would think an offer like that would get consideration. Steel may need to be swapped out for someone else or a 1st round pick, but there would be a base there that could start the conversation.

Interesting trade but the Jets would want at least one young top line center or a true young 1/ 2 d-man coming back, that most teams wouldn't want part with. I still don't believe that Laine is on the trade block at this time.

Lindholm is the best D your getting in a trade for Laine. He isn’t getting a true young 1D straight across in a trade. Has Lindholms stock fallen, is he not a 2 D?

Steel is 21. His age is at the point in his career where he has to make the team full time this year or next, or younger guys will be passing him on the depth chart and given more opportunity. Zegras is only 18. He has a few years before he hits Steels age. And same thing for him: 3-5 years to make it or you bust out and lose your chance. Simple as that.
