LA Kings:
Ilya Kovalchuk

Detroit Red Wings:
Jonathan Ericsson

Both teams are bottom 5 in the league with different needs. LA is looking for any way out of Kovi's contract and are short on left D. A 34 year old Ericsson would plug in to the bottom pair and then likely be gone as a UFA in the summer.

Kovi would see lots of ice time in Detroit in their top 6 and allow Blashill to better work with his bottom 6 depth lines. He would bring veteran leadership and provide some offence. If he produces 40+ points this year I'm happy with it.

1 more season with Kovi and then the team will be looking closer to coming out of their rebuild. Another idea would be seeing him traded next season again to a contender for a pick.

Ericsson was placed on Waivers and Unclaimed. His value would be getting A player in a similar position or a very meh prospect/ pick is what he could get.

Also not all that interested in Kovy from a Wings perspective, we have a lot of good young wingers who need playing time and experience, not fill ins and extra contracts lengths.

We need to clear Salary and not add more.

Kovalchuk would bring leadership? I've never seen that side of him. He's a veteran player with lots of experience, but I don't think anyone sees him as a leader.

I really hope Kovy goes somewhere, where he gets good playing time he’s still a really good player.
