This is a trade that neither team does IMO. Maybe Montreal to get out of Weber‘s contract. But they have some good young centres and a weaker D core. Vancouver wouldn’t trade a top 6 center not to mention there caption. I’d say value is close though.

Why does everyone treat Weber’s contract like something so terrible? He can still be a Top 4 D for most of the years left and if he wants to retire before it’s over Montreal faces minimal backlash, plus they could hold Nashville for ransom if he does want to retire early.

He’s 34 with 6 years left on his contract. Yeah he’s good now but he could be a Seabrook and be not great next year or maybe his 37 year old year. So they’ll have a bad contract until he decides to retire or more likely play out his last couple years.

Maybe or he might still be as good as chara by then at least. You can't really call a contract bad until the player starts playing bad. Take Carey price for example lol.

Price is the one that bothers me not weber. I think the habs can actually replace price internally but there is not another Shea weber in the system.

I agree and I’m not taking anything away from him as a player. But you can agree then it might not be a contract teams want to trade a lot for considering it’s very possibly it goes bad.

How much does Chara male compared to how much Weber will be making at the same age though? That’s where the difference lies.
