Alright hockey pundits. Here is a good one.

Habs: Meier and Vlasic

Sharks: Price, Leikonnen, 2nd round pick.

Habs: Halak

Bruins: Kovalchuk and 3rd round pick.

Bergevin went with Price over Halak years ago so I don't see him undoing that now.

Side note: Leikonnen is mentioned in almost every habs trade scenario I see on here, is he that bad that he's being shopped for anything that they can get?

09 Jan 2020 19:26:24
No, I actually really like Leky. but he is one of the few people we have that has any value and not injured.

09 Jan 2020 19:42:09
I'd like to see Lehkonen stay. He Is a very responsible player, and I think he has more offensive to give. not going to be a 30 goal man. but he can play on any line.

10 Jan 2020 03:54:27
Halak was gone before Bergeron got here wasn't he?

10 Jan 2020 11:55:31
It was Gainey that made the decision to go with Price.

10 Jan 2020 14:51:55
Bob Gainey traded Halak.

Trade Price now for a good roster player and 2 prospects. Bring back Halak for the next 2 seasons while Primeau learns the ropes and develops in the NHL as his backup. It's as simple as that.

Halak wouldn’t improve the Habs in fact he’d probably make them worse. Halaks numbers are inflated because he plays on a team that has good defence in front of him and offence that scores. Apart from Weber Habs have a weak defence and don’t score enough to compensate for it (like the leafs) . Price is still a awesome goalie and I would guarantee if he played for bruins instead of halak he’d put up Vezina numbers. I said it at the time when habs traded halak and went with price that I wish they woulda traded price and kept halak and they coulda watched price
light it up with another team.

10 Jan 2020 17:59:04
If. and this is a big IF. they trade Price. bring in Crawford in off season? Let him mentor Primeau?

If Healthy, Crawford play 45 to 50. Primeau the rest.?

10 Jan 2020 18:00:11
Ya but Mertle if you’re reading price and bringing in Halak it isn’t to improve, its for a mini rebuild and to mentor Primeau.
And ya Price on Bos or Col would be better, get this, you’re absolutely correct, it’s because they are better teams in front of him. Imagine that! Lol.

10 Jan 2020 19:35:45
I hear ya yup, I like price, I think he’s a great goalie and a great person and I’m a leafs fan. It bothers me when habs fans keep calling for his head like he’s done nothing for their team the last 10 years. My point was more that if they do trade price it shouldn’t be for another goalie, like them getting another goalie is going to help them, you’re right it should be for prospects young roster players, maybe depending where they finish they could draft the young Russian goalie projected 5-10.

10 Jan 2020 21:58:08
Last thing I want to do is move Price. He is the only reason this team has been relevant the last 10 years. I jus want to see him win a cup. no one in Habs history has been more deserving than him. he's carried a mediocre team since he was a kid.
For me, seeing him leave, would be more devastating personally, than seeing Roy leave.

Would he be best Goalie in History to never win a cup?
My selfishness aside, only reason I want to see him go anywhere, is to to see a classy player win . he deserves that. Jus wish it woulda been in a Habs Jersey.

10 Jan 2020 22:11:31
I don't think there is any other real choice then to trade him. But I wanted it for a few years now. And I'm not blaming him for anything I just think it would be best for both sides if he was traded.

10 Jan 2020 23:35:15
I agree with you Sosa. price is nothing but class, he’s a great goalie and deserves a cup. I would love it if the habs could trade him and for a good team to be able to afford him, not because as a leafs fan I don’t want the habs to succeed but for a price fan that would love to see him be able to just be human on a good team and not have to carry the weight of an entire team on his back.

11 Jan 2020 02:41:39
Well the last thing you want to do is give full reigns to a young guy on a struggling team maybe rebuilding, he’ll jist get peppered and probably struggle. That’s the last thing you want t do to a young kids confidence. Bringing in someone in a vet like Halak helps ease that, takes half the games and can mentor him in the locker room and practices, that would be the hope/ plan.
So I have to highly disagree with lots of your idea there.

11 Jan 2020 03:40:32
Aside from the goalie moves, if the hands trade kovalchuk away, (not sure they're even allowed) they would gain a really bad reputation. They just signed him, he would have to ask for a trade.
Also he probably passed on the Bruins in favor of more ice time.

11 Jan 2020 08:34:35
If Kovalchuk doesn’t have a ntc he can be traded. And there is no way SJ trades Meier when he is key to their future offence.

11 Jan 2020 10:01:26
Trading Price now is incumbent for Habs to orchestrate a successful rebuild. He is climbing up the age ladder. His trade value is diminishing with each loss and mediocre performance by him. His monstrous contract is a heavy burden on the team. Vlasic and Romanov would significantly bolster our defense and enable a goalie such as Halak to mind the fort here until Primeau is ready. Meier is a legit top 6 forward who can score 30-35 goals.

Regards,

Price is one of those unmovable contracts. No team wants to pay a 36 year old goalie 10.5. he's already on the decline, 6 years from now? Goalies especially don't get better with age.
