Detroit will most likely get Lafrennier. however, it's a deep draft., and Habs will most likely be a lottery team. I like Dubois, but not at the risk of losing the shot at Lafrennier. which stranger things have happened . and as much as I was disappointed in Caufield at the World Jr. , I'm still not ruling him out as being a decent player. maybe a Debrinkat kinda guy.? But he has a higher ceiling
. So Habs would be smart to keep the pick and player.
And. I don't think Columbus would do that either.

It wouldn’t even be thought about unless they were out of the playoff picture.

The only way Columbus would ever consider this is if Caufield was 6feet and mtl was not playoff bound or clost like they are. Mtl is going to make the playoff this year and that pick won’t be great, I even see them pulling a St Louis Blues so in that case they would have the 31pick and Caufield. Is that good for Dubois?

Until Habs get or draft a BONA FIDE first line center, they will never seriously contend for the Cup. So, I'd attempt to acquire Dubois who is very young, grew up near Montreal, speaks french, 6'2, and has the potential to become that first line center Habs have desperately been deprived of for ages. Media, coaches, and fans here will fall in love with him. I'd add Leikonnen or Tatar to sweeten my offer.

Half the replies think MTL would disagree, half think CLB would. That seems like the hallmarks of a good deal. CLB is on a hot streak, so I doubt they sell. If CLB tanks the next month and MTL gets hot and fights for a playoff spot, this would be an interesting fit for both sides.

Columbus has absolutely no reason to move Dubois.
