Habs : kovalchuk

Pitt: 2nd round pick 2020

Pittsburgh are looking for a top 6 forward and if Habs can't get a second round pick they should just keep him.

That boat has sailed. He has done well in Montreal and it's the best place for him. The pens are working on something much bigger.

I'd like to see the Canadiens re-sign Kovalchuk. Something like $8mil/ 8 years. They like big contracts for older players.

La couldn't get anything for him but maybe at his reduced salary Montreal can. Maybe a playoff team that needs depth might bite. I doubt a 2nd though.

Bryan little’s contract is as bad as anything on the Habs at least those older guys Habs have are still good.

07 Feb 2020 13:23:50
Nope Habby. The Jets have no contracts that can touch the boat anchors of Weber and Price. Lol.

07 Feb 2020 14:46:30
Oh yeah and I forgot about the Karl Alzner contract. 😆

Montreal is right up there with the Oilers for horribad contracts. Lol.

Kovy needs to stay put in MTL. He's fit in perfectly. Case closed.

Winnipeg is looking solid with that Bryan little contract. I’m sure that can only get better. The kulikov contract Was not much better than the alzner contract when it was signed. I’m sure Perreault is worth the 4 million+, what with his intangibles and 14 points. Can anyone explain why the jets would want to have Blake wheeler making over 8 million dollars until he is 38? That one has the same potential to sour on the jets as much as Carey prices contract has to burn the Canadiens. Most teams have bad contracts. You sign players that you want to keep whatever you have to. That’s how you keep them.

Weber’s contract is bad for Nashville not Montreal.

07 Feb 2020 20:43:56
Lol. Nice grasping at straws Firebergevin.

Bryan Little it's a 2C and traditionally produces as one, but we can say he is being overpaid by about $1 mil if you want. Wheeler is being paid the going rate for a player of his quality and I know everyone would rather have his contract than being stuck with Weber's and Price's.

Kulikov's contract is done at the end of this year, but at least he's still an NHL quality player while Alzner is laughably being paid $4.625 mil for 2 more years after this one and hasn't been an NHL quality platter for a couple years now. So, you lose big time there because your Habs gave out a ridiculous contract length to a terrible player.

Perreault is overpaid by about $1 mil, but it's only for another year. No big deal. Whereas, Weber has a cap hit of more than $7.8 mil for another 6 years after this one and he's 34! 😆

Then you have Price who is 32, regressing very badly and being paid $10.5 mil for 6 years after this one and he isn't even a league average goalie at this point.

Montreal is far, far, far, far worse at handing out contracts than most teams (outside Edmonton) could ever hope to be.

That's why Kovalchuk at $8 mil over 8 years is actually something I could see Montreal doing given their history of bad contracts.

My point is more that you pay what you pay to keep and acquire players. I admit they are bad contracts. The Habs didn’t sign the weber contract. But to assume it’s going to be bad is as ridiculous as me assuming that wheelers contract will be bad. As for price. He is our franchise goaltender.

He got paid what was required to retain him. We aren’t going to let a goaltender that won a hart trophy walk for nothing. “The Habs are notorious for handing out bad contracts”. So is every other team. It’s the nature of the league.

Montreal sucks and the jets are the best joe we know lol the funny thing is they both have the same amount of points this year, and if you want to get into cap issues maybe you should consider the jets situation for next year going to be tight bud.

I’ve only just remembered. It wasn’t too long ago that Winnipeg’s general manager was calling Bergevin to try and get rid of one of his terrible signings in Steve Mason. Oh how the time flies. We appreciate having armia tho.
