Why would the leafs do that? If Detroit wants Marner they’d need to start with Siender and add on there. Mantha would cost like 8-9 million to resign so they’re barely getting cap space for a far inferior player. Hornek while good isn’t the type of dman the leafs need. If the pick is Detroit’s 1st then the leafs take it and run but I can promise the leafs have absolutely no interest in Mantha.

So you have direct contact with Dubas? Yea no one wants a 30 goal scorer. I agree he is inferior to Marner but if he can be signed for 7 millionish and you add Hronek who is a very capable right side defensive and offensive dman it strengthens there lineup. As much as I like Marner I would do this trade. If the pick has to be a 2nd rounder I would do it.

Horrible trade for the Leafs. Marner is so undervalued here by too many pro-Leafs posters. I would love to see him on the Jets but like the Leafs big 3 he is overpaid and there is no way the Leafs eat some of his salary. Keep Marner and try to fill your numerous holes by trading either Tavarez or Matthews.

So trade your centre depth? Centre and dmen are your toughest commodities to find. Marner is the trade if any. It's not that I don't appreciate Marner because I love him as a player. But 11 million is about 1-2 million to much and there are not many teams that can take that contract on. Islandjet please tell me what a fair return would be? I would love it if the return was more.

While I like Marner, this sets us back not forward. Our biggest need is on Defence which Hronek is honestly our best Dman right now which we aren’t moving. Seider is untouchable so not even going to go there.

While Marner is good and I like him, from a Wings perspective I’m not interested because I don’t see the long term upside to this.

Mantha will not cost 8-9 million at least not right now. Chances are he will ask for similar to Larkin money and with his injuries I could see that as reasonable. It will likely fall in the 5-6 year, 5-7 million range.

I don’t see Marner making us Cup Contenders much faster than Mantha, so I will keep Mantha, Draft, develop and work towards getting better.

I think you were sarcastic islnandjet, but you were right. Marner is very undervalued. I think people forget he is only 22. He's better than someone like Kane or Kucherov when he was that age.

You don’t need to be a genius to know the leafs aren’t interested in a expensive power forward like Mantha he’s good and a lot of teams would love him but he doesn’t fit into the skill based system. This makes the leafs a worse team. If the wings wanted Marner they’d have to give up atleast Sinder and not a 1 dimensional dman like Horonek he’s not as bad as Deangelo but he’s probably on Tyson Barries level or a prime Mike Green.

Vbbb, I don’t think you’ve watched Hronek enough. He’s not 1 dimensional as Barrie or Green are.

He plays a more complete game with a balance of offence and defence. Problem is because the team played bad as a whole, you think he’s horrendous defensively.

Any contending team has a solid Top 4 Dman. We have 1 in Hronek and moving him right now is not an option unless we get an upgrade.

Well, unless a miracle happens vb, the leafs won't win a cup with its current structure on defense. Let's just aim to be a top ten team, not a cup contender.

I can agree that I haven’t closely followed Hronek per say but he does strike me as the offensive type I remember watching the wings and Hronek got a lot of ice time and I think he was -3 he did stand out tho. I understand why the wings wouldn’t move Hronek but this makes no sense from the leafs either.

@i took donscherry then the leafs should move Marner in a deal where an expensive winger isn’t the main piece. Mantha will be making atleast as much as Nylander and I think he uses Skinner 9 million as a comparison the leafs wouldn’t have enough to sign Petro.
