Hell no if I was CAL. Would be such A better team with the collection of those 4 pieces than what they would be With just Laine.

A young Top 4 RHD signed like Andersson is has good value. They’re obviously not 1 for 1 or you end up with the Hall/ Larson fiasco again. But I don’t think Andersson would only be 1/ 4 of the return either. Andersson, the prospect and the 1st is probably enough without Mangipane. Or leave him in there and lose the 1st.

We can wait and see.

Andersson and the first is a nice start, but Mangiapane and Pelletier do nothing for the Jets. Winnipeg would say no.

Laine instantly impacts the team, and makes it better than the pieces Calgary gives up.

However next year, laine wants money the flames haven't got. Either he cap straps them, or they trade him hoping to get as much in return. If they flames pull the trigger, they are almost all in this year, if they pass they're probably in contention longer.

The Jets will lose any trade for Laine that isn't for an equally skilled player.

19 Oct 2020 19:39:00
Who do you consider an equally skilled player? The problem is, how do you compare laine to horvat? I think horvat is worth more personally (marginally if at all), he produces, leads, competes every shift, does everything a great centre should.

Laine is a winger who will score more goals. Goals win games.

Monkeyful- Very hard to compare equal value in different positions and player types for sure. There’s very few guys with Laines playing style which is pure goal scorer. My issue with him is: if you’re going to be a pure goal scorer and that’s all you want to focus on, you better be so much better at it than anyone else. And he’s just not.

A young Ovi was very one dimensional and only wanted to score goals. But he was putting up 50-65 a season In his first 4 yrs. Laine is like that but seasons of 36, 44, 30 and 28 just aren’t good enough. There’s too many players putting up 30-35 goals while doing everything else on the ice far better than him.

Jets fans believe Laine is the Michael Jordan of hockey.

20 Oct 2020 07:50:34
Young ovi was a power forward and a huge physical force. laine Is slowly rounding out his game but he is not that yet. I’d like to have him though cause I still see 50 goal potential problem is he might break the bank before he gets to that point.

20 Oct 2020 11:44:15
Yes. Ovi was much more physical, but if he wasn’t, you’d still be okay with him because he was scoring 50+. All I’m saying if you’re only good at one thing and want to stay in the league you better be great at it. I personally don’t think his game is rounding out near enough to only score around 30G and be considered a top player. To each their own.

20 Oct 2020 11:53:32
Just too many other guys that score 30+ while doing so much more away from the puck than just floating around the ice. toews, Marchand, Gallagher, Landeskog, barkov, stone, couturier etc.

Last season he was 22nd in goals, the season before that he was 45th in the league in goals. The Fan reaction, perceived asking price and future salary commitments seen like we are talking about a very elite goal scorer when the numbers just don’t show that.

I’m sure there’s teams that would love to have him. i'm sure we will find out who and how much very soon.

20 Oct 2020 15:04:06
I agree 100% Sampson. Which is why laine is known to complain now. He wants to be 1st line with the 1st line centre. Also ovechkin affected the emotion and flow of the game more, but laine has been seen to play defensively (Not all the time, but he's getting there) . I don't think ovi saw the inside of his own blue line until his 6th year in the league.

But this is also what I meant before, laine needs to have a full season with a true centre that can help him produce. Statsny might not be a 1c, but him and laine compliment each other well, and I hope they stay healthy so we can actually get a value on laine.

Being buried behind a teammate sucks for everyone though. I would've loved crosby Malkin and ovi to fight for the art ross for those early years.

20 Oct 2020 15:43:31
Monkeyful - he hasn’t played with the teams best Center which could be the reason for lacking numbers, but on the flip side he doesn’t get to play with the top line because the rest of his game doesn’t warrant it. It’s the chicken and the egg argument.

Matthews never played on the top line and wasn’t on the first PP as a rookie with babcock and still put up 40G. He made sure to give them no choice but to put him there. I haven’t seen that from Laine, but like I keep saying, we can wait and see.

20 Oct 2020 16:54:54
So you want a top-four defenseman, the guy Calgary just re-signed to play in their top six, last years first and another first for a guy with a year of control? TFOH

I love the idea of Laine in Calgary playing on the right side of Lindy and Chucky but that proposal is out to lunch.

Flames don't have the depth on D to give up what the Jet's would want.

The Flyers and Avalanche have guys like Sanheim or Byram to start the conversation at least. What about Buffalo, something around
Reinhardt and picks?

20 Oct 2020 18:44:10
I actually think on most teams laine plays top line. He's stuck behind Blake wheeler. You really don't put a sniper ahead of your most complete player, i think matthews would be my#2 centre behind Bergeron.
